Tell that to the people eating gangrene chicken!

The same people who won't raise awareness of the problem because it's not worth complainging due to it not being a 'proper' shop?

We've had a few rotten things from ALDI recently within their sell-by dates. A cheese and onion pasty and some oatcakes were both green mouldy when we opened them. Also fruit doesn't last very long especially strawberries. They do replace if you moan at them though but their storage needs looking at methinks.

I have to say its the one and only time I had a problem with Aldi. I took it back and it was rectified.
Aldi IS a proper store - but like all other stores the produce has to be managed properly by the manager and staff. it can vary from store to store depending on how efficient the staff are and the manager properly rotating the goods. Also the supplier may be trying to pull a fast one and unless you let the store know they wont be aware of that.
Email the head office and complain.

Buying some things from some places just doesn't seem right, like getting Glasses from Tesco Optician, I just wouldn't do it; and buying a chicken from Aldi is one of those! Just picturing the description of that chicken is making me cringe!

    It ALDI for goodness sake.

If it was a proper shop it would be worth complaining
Even with every check in the world, all along the chain, there will be the odd occurance of off/dodgy food. OP should have returned to store, or at least phoned them to ask what to do re refund (if inconvenient to go back next day!).

Aldi is a proper store, they do the best grapes I've ever tasted. They're not as bad as Lidl's
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

Are you suggesting Lidl isn't a proper shop either??

    Agreed.

What about Farmfoods?? Jeez, makes Aldi look like Waitrose!!

Is it just a coincidence that we bought a rotten chicken from an Aldi in Manchester, and it too was rancid (although in date).

We too threw it away, not wanting to touch the stinking poultry, let alone have it stink the car out on route to an Aldi store whilst we hold our breath.

I learned a lesson to NEVER buy such meat from Aldi again, I will stick with those stores that dont accidentally sell such lethal products.

When it comes to poultry, the odd one or two rotten carcasses slipping through the net and finding themselves on a shelf "in-date" is certainly NOT acceptable, even by accident, quite the opposite, its potentially lethal.

It should not even be possible to "accidentally" date and store an out dated or rancid product onto a shelf.

I did not say anything about rotten carcasses slipping through, but in todays way of production/supplying supermarkets/packaging/travelling long distances it IS inevitable things like this can happen. If you really want to avoid the potential of this grow (and slaughter!) your own!
Things can, and do, go rancid on the shelf, and although there should be people checking these things nothing is 100% proof!
