Thanks for that. I forgot about them. I was going to get some old magazines and practise on my sister but those tutorials might be better :D.

  • Hello all, just dropping by with my plans for Memory Girl's 100 day challenge which started on Friday,

Lose weight - between 1 - 2 stone. I know that is a bit vague! but I don't want to get caught up it all, so anything from a pound to 2 pounds per week is good. I am ordering the Fly lady body clutter book......I want to do more walking/running since it helps with my stress levels

    2. Declutter the house and sell all I can on e bay. Clearout the loft esepcially for ebay and charity shop.

    3. Pay off 2000 pounds of the debt.

    4. Get an schedule and stick to it. ie, sleep, eating, working in a balance which means I do my job and don't have these periods of stress that are if I am honest mostly my own fault. (use the control journal)I procastinate loads and this must stop.

    5. Catch up with my masters, finish the first (by 31st July) and second module by the end of the summer holidays.

    6. Follow the Flylady plan, for the house and work

    7. Finish the garden(weeding cleaning), start the fish pond(digging)

    8. Paint the bathroom and then get some one in to fit a boiler

    9. Paint the wood work in the house and do small niggley jobs. Ideally I want to put up shelves for some stuff from the loft but not sure Mum will cope. The whole boiler malarky has been going on long enough.

    10. Return the conservatory to its former glory - it is clutter ville atm. and I did have it straight before and will do again.

I posting this here as I think it fits in with what i have said here before. I have been stuck or not ready for change for a while now and I know I had my reasons but now I feel ready. So this 100 days is the start.

Hope all is well with everyone? How is the homework going?

    xx

  • Right a couple of pages back Polly, thrifty and birdlady discussed the worry thing. Oh boy do I suffer from that. As Polly said it can be anything, in fact I'd probably worry if I didn't have anything to worry about.
I think it has a lot to do with being brought up with a concience. No time to sit and do nothing, always a little job to be done. And I think that evolves into the 'be prepared' thing. As a result I'm not prepared - at all - for anything. This sort of disorganisation seeps it's way in to every single aspect of my life, financial, work, house maintenance. It's like I have my finger hovering over the the self destruct button.

So the relax thing, why do I feel guilty if I relax, because I know there are a mountain of things to do.

Now I've gone and got myself a nice shiney new job, this will double my hours and nearly double my salary. I have a month before I start. It's going to mean big changes all round. So I have to get it together. Not done a 9 - 5 for nearly 17 years.

So this is my wake up call restart. I've changed the first amd major thing I was unhappy about, now to fit all the little pieces together.

  • DC, well done on your new job, it sounds great for you (sorry, I've just lurked on your diary :)).

I've been thinking a lot recently (I'm still doing my homework, elantan, honestly :)) I've been thinking about laziness, and procrastination, and why I can't get a grip on really, simple, normal things. It all comes down to motivation really, doesn't it? If I like doing something, I'll do it and it won't seem like hard work. If the carrot (or the stick) is close enough to feel real, I'll do it. If none of these apply, but I think it's something I should do (and for me, this list is never-ending) I'll try to do it, but fail miserably, usually with some big blow-out type behaviour that puts me three steps back.

This still leaves me questioning a lot of thoughts that I've had for years about 'should dos' and I'm finding elantan's questions about what will and won't happen if I do or don't do something a few posts earlier helpful in this. I'm also letting myself think that it's okay to be lazy sometimes!

DC, I think you'll cope with all the things that need to be done because now there is a good, motivating reason to do them, and it won't seem like hard work. I do think this is a good time to have a list :D.

Buffy, that's a he!! of a list; if you feel ready to deal with this and it motivates you, go for it, but remember to have a rest too :)

Dragon - hope you're feeling better; take care.

    Hi everyone

Hope you have all had a good weekend. Nice and sunny here today.

I have been working on and off today and will be tonight too. I have decided to get back into mystery shopping, but only doing the jobs that require no purchases at the moment as I am still broke. I have one next week which pays £9 and applied for another for £12.

I acquired some cookware stuff from Freecycle today. A chopping board, baking tray, bun tray and some other utensils. They need cleaning up but think they will be ok once I have scrubbed them hard. At least I can make cakes now (when I get some more ingredients). Will keep looking on Freecycle for more bits and pieces.

I also thought about the make-up taster lesson that I want to do. I am going to do what was suggested on here and try some of the tutorials on Youtube and I have started collecting some out of freebie magazines. I just thought that I could spend some of that £150 on make-up to practice with. I don't think you really need to have any qualifications to do make-up for people so if I train myself up and found I was good at it, I could look into making it part of my work.

Anyway, back to the work and cleaning!

    Emily xx

Hey all - I have a question that I hope you all could help me with?

I have a review in August at work and I want to ask for a raise. I'm going to lay out my arguments and I need some feedback, if anyone has any suggestions? I'm quite nervous about it as I've never asked for one before, so would also appreciate any reassurance!
    • I was hired at an entry level job two years ago and I've learned and taken on responsibilities very fast, to the point that I'm leading major pieces of work of strategic importance to the organization. I got a small raise at the start of the year, but my responsibilities have grown very fast and I think its fair to ask pay to reflect that.
    • I think the new salary that I will ask for is a fair market value for the work I do. Our wholly owned subsidiary (which is a separate organization) advertised a job at a similar level to what I currently do in exactly the same field for that salary.
    • I know our department has the budget to give me a raise - I'm not sure how to play this one. I don't want my boss to think I'm using her openness about the departmental budget against her. However, part of the reason we are so well resourced is because of some big wins that I've been a big part of, so I think its only fair that a very small part of that come to me!
What does everyone think? I'm only asking for a modest raise, but I've never done it before so I need some support! And I need to tell you all so you can make sure I don't chicken out come August :rotfl:

Okay I am back and hopefully I won't need to head off again, basically my Mam fell downstairs and broke her right arm and my Dad's Leukemia took a dip (it seems to have settled again, the oncologist thinks it was from worrying about my Mam), so I was up in the North West without internet access for a while looking after them (which was fun as I am on crutches and need a carer myself ), basically I went up and bulk cooked a load of food (their kitchen is laid out so I can get too and from places if people ferry from the fridge etc), so my Dad just had to take a couple of meals out of the freezer the night before and heat them through in the oven or the nuke box. Also masses of soup so lunches were set up as well (froze bread buns in packs of two so again they just needed getting out).

Since getting back at the weekend I have started tracking my food again as I think my weight is the main thing that holds me back, hopefully the tablets will be starting to work and this time the diet will kick in and I will shift the blubber! I have between 13 and 14 stone to lose :o (aka shed loads! :rotfl: - just worked it out I need to lose between 180 and 200 pounds or 82 to 89 kg :p, to think I used to be runner and exercise freak!)

I also need to get the house tidied, if the house looks good then I feel better and I do more (I hope that makes sense to the rest of you :o)

Nottoobad - I think I would use these two arguments - as you said bringing in the department budget is not really a good idea - best of luck with the review and the potential pay rise!
