Hi would I be able to join this challenge? Its a very apt name because that is exactly what we need. Here is a very brief list of challenges that over time I'll expand on.

    1) Tackle our large amount of debt. I'm still calculating the total, but I aim for a DFD of December 2012. It is scary after tax how much of our hard earned money goes to companies.

    2) My OH isn't well. Without details its a long haul situation which I think may have been aggravated by our lack of financial skills over the years. She is going to get better I know she will.

    3) For both my OH and myself to quit our jobs and do something we like or to live elsewhere to experience more of what life has to offer. Maybe another country. I quite fancy Canada or New Zealand.

    4) Once debt-free to live life to the full safe in the knowledge that I won't owe anyone any money.

    Morning
    Great idea Dragon.
Like Polly, lurker staus has descended, I have so much to tackle, but need a kick start.
Priorities..well I have notebooks full of them, mixed up with menu plans, shopping lists and budget workings..says it all really.
Will be back with a list.

    :hello: Hi Guys!

What perfect timing!! I was just saying on my diary that I need a kick up the 'erris to sort myself out! I would love to join in, if thats ok?

I need to sort out everything; my finances, my house, my weight, my health, my marriage, my car, my priorities, my OU course, my animals, my garden - literally everything! Just don't know where to start!

Am very interested to find out what Elantan's workshop idea is.... :)

Cor!!!!!!!!!!!! Elantan and another couple of us thought the wake up call was a good idea - seems we weren't the only ones! Good to see you honeybear, Krisp, penguin83 and thrifty fifty!

I've found that declaring my aims to other people means I'm more likely to stick to them. :D

    Thank you for the welcome!

Quiet Life - we all do what we can, within our capabilities. Anything that yo can do extra to your normal 'things' is an achievement, no matter how small. I was laid up with two herniated discs at the end of last year and was so close to having an operation, it scares me to think about it. But my aim then was to not have to do that. Thank goodness I achieved it, otherwise I'm sure I'd still be suffering now. My recovery and continued good health is due to doing 5 monutes worth of exercises each morning. I've done them for 8 months and I'll continue to do them. Too damn scared not to!

true27 - why not choose a couple of those things to sort out first, and then once you're in a routine with them, add another one or two things? Then it won't seem quite so daunting?

The Dragon - hope you don't mind me doling out advice on your thread...:o

    Hi Dragon

Could I join please? No debts but also no job (walked out of my much hated one in January and took early retirement) living on a tiny income. For the last 2 years I find it impossible to make a decision about anything (should I move house, if not I need to get some work done to this one for example), I used to know what I wanted out of life but now the days pass me by and I achieve absolutely nothing. I think just reading your first post has already been a wake up call for me.

    Decision about house
Find ways for a 50something widow to socialise more (not good at going places on my own)
Look for a part time job (I do a bit of voluntary work which I'd like to keep)

    Nothing major then :)

Ooh, what OU course are you doing? I'm about to start again in november, social science research methods. On that note, I think I should add to my list not to leave my assignments until the last minute. Eek :)

  • Morning all.

I've been trying to write a list of things in my life to sort out, but basically it's everything (or at least if feels like it)! So I have contented myself with some broad categories and I'll break these down as time goes on.

Dragon, can you put me down for home, body and soul, work, family and friends, and finances, please.

I have a good feeling about this challenge - I think everyone who's posted has said something that I can relate to. Most of the time I feel I'm :wall:so I think this thread will give the 'wake up call' I need to start dealing with things in a different way.

    - keep up with my Hebrew study

Ohh Krisp, let me know if you have hebrew questions! Its one of my many totally unmarketable skills :)

I royally need a kick up a bum on a few things! The money saving is going really well so I'm less concerned on that, but I do need the following:
    • Kick up the proverbial on my accounting course. Its been nearly a year since I took the classes and I haven't yet taken the exams! Once I move flats this will be a big priority.
    • Meal planning. I've been unable to do this since the start of the warm weather, can do hearty winter meals but need more summery options!
    • Keeping up with my volunteer commitments
Thanks for the challenge, great idea!

I hardly ever look on this forum, but wandered in this morning and spotted this thread.
Perfect timing as I had been thinking I needed to have another go at sorting out my life :o

I may come back to amend/add, but off the top of my head

    Clear my CCs (again)
Do something with all the craft stuff I have collected (out of all the craft books likewise)
    Sort out my finances
If it ever gets warmer sort out the garden.
