Baffled

I hope someone can help.

I took out a new contract with o2 about a month ago, got myself a BlackBerry 9700.

In the last two weeks or so I have had well over half a dozen or so calls from people saying that they are returning my calls, or saying that my number has appeared on their phones.

I have never contacted these callers and no-one has access to my phone, so I'm baffled to say the least.

I've spoken to o2 and they say its impossible for my number to appear on someone else's phone unless I call them.

If it was a one off call I could understand it but it's a bit spooky when so many callers saying '' I have you number on my phone so you must have phoned me.''

Anyone had this happen to them.

Do the numbers show up in the calls on your bill?

Switch your phone off, call your number.

If someone else answers you've got your answer.

It is supposed to be impossible to have the same number as anyone else, but I've seen it happen. . .

    Thanks for the replies

I've spoken to O2 again and they are unable to give any reason why this should be happening, but after looking into it they agree that it does happen from time to time.

They suggest a new number (which I have agreed too) or a replacement Sim card with my original number.

So hopefully the matter has been resolved.

look into sim card cloning and IMEI number cloning and phones WITHOUT IMEI numbers on google, you will find that there are millions of mobile phones manufactured in the far east without IMEI numbers, these phones are very cheap, many countries have banned them but people would have brought it into the country and i dont see why they cant be used if they have a cloned sim card +/- cloned phone.

"New IMEIs can be programmed into stolen handsets and 10% of IMEIs are not unique." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Equipment_Identity

it was estimated that 25million mobiles without IMEI numbers were disconnected in india alone in dec 2009 after the terrorist attacks there. these phones were being imported/smuggled from china. other countries were banning phones without IMEI numbers as apparently companies cant track these phones on the network.

IMEIs can also be allocated by some software and it was found that the phones without IMEIs were being altered by software to 'allot' IMEIs to them. many times the same IMEIs were duplicated few times over so that the same phone would show up in different places all over the country simultaeneously over various networks.

also see this old thread on mse https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/118893 see if someone got a clone sim card officially!!!! without you knowing it.

or it could just be a glitch in the mobile company sytem!

    best of luck
