    £68.55 Mortgage protection,
Just found out that my company pension covers both critical illness and death during service. Which means my wife get £250k if I die and then my pension paid to her each month. Therefore I've been looking at getting rid of the mortgage protection policy and have used Cavendish (found on this site) to get a life assurance policy for £300k on death only for £19.08 a month. I think my wife and daughter will now be taken care of very well if something happens to me. PLUS we are saving £49.47 each month :)

    £41.77 Building and contents.
For the exact same insurance I can get this from Churchill for £13.16 a month. Saving another £28.61 amonth.

    Monthly saving £78.08

For those who suggested reviewing my insurance. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    * for information, the life assurance is based on a 1 year policy as a smoker for £16.63 a month, then the £19.08 will be taken out again in 12 months time as a non smoker for 28 years.

P.S Did I mention I have quit smoking as of last night?. Now where's my orbit chewing gum gone.

I just came on to wish you well on your journey and congratulate you on a good start. These boards are excellent for advice.

Just from curiosity, what did you manage to spend £12 on at work before? Was it the fags?

    Thanks :).

No, The cigarettes we buy in cartons at the start of the month, so it's a one of charge for them rather than daily outgoings. £12 a day was purely food and drink.

This is a typical day in the office (Some people in my team have 4 - 5 coffee's a day - that's almost £10 a day on Coffee alone !!!)
    Pret Mocha - £1.95
    Pret - breakfast roll - £1.85
    Bottle of drink - £1.30
    Lunch - £4.50
    Afternoon Coffee - £1.95
    Afternoon chocolate - £0.55
    Total £12.10

I'm doing pretty good now though. Only spent £1.85 this week. Aiming for max food & drink spend of £10 for the whole of June (see my sig)

This one statement was the main reason and main motivation to quitting. It's amazing how people can say "your lungs are filled with gunk, you won't live as long, you stink, you skin ages quicker". All that doesn't seem enough to make me strong enough to quit. But as you said and I quote:

... really started me thinking, not only of the money but of my daughter in general. Kill yourself slowly for £200 a month or make sure your daughter is well taken care of for half of that.

Forgot to mention. Last night while going through my paper work to find the most recent gas/electric bill I found a letter from nectar that they send with your card attached, which reminded me I used to use get nectar points when using my barclaycard all those years ago.

I registered on the Nectar site today and entered my nectar card number, expecting to find it now obsolete as I have used it for so long. But to my surprise I have 74,580 points !!!!
