    in what sense?
    new,old or what?
my car doesnt depreciate since i will run it till it dies
    just generally

though if you want specifics say a few years old medium sized car
  • I've been toying with the idea of 'bangernomics' just to get me about while i'm still unemployed but the cost of just getting it on the road itself for me defeats the purpose of this way of motoring.

It doesn't seem to matter which average size car I select for an insurance quote, they all seem to be of similar price of around £550/£600 and because I'm unemployed the 3rd party Fire/Theft quotes are higher than comprehensive so that's a no go!

Adding a years road tax just to have my car road legal would mean it costs more than the car's worth and I can't justify it so I'll just have to make do with my legs until I get a job. It's no wonder some people can't be bothered to insure old knackers, don't condone it though.

Rather than telling the insurance people you're unemployed - tick the box that says "house wife/husband" as it sounds better lol

Hehe, I did on one website but the comparison sites don't seem to have that option, don't think it'd make much difference anyway.

Petrol £0. Diesel. £20 per month (would be £80, but the other £60's veg oil from pubs now)
Servicing Oil and filter every 5-6k see repairs.
MOT £40, not even an advisory
    Insurance £180 FC
    Road Tax £215 ish
Repairs £110 for new sump, oil, filter and fitting
Fines! ok, £60 but that was the bike.
Accessories (Sat Nav etc.) some a4 and ink (aa route and printout)
Breakdown Cover "free" with bank account
Depreciation? £0 ish. She cost me nothing really,
Oil/Coolant/Wiper fluid etc. so far, nothing but the screenwasher bottles needing some fairy (since Feb)

what else? Thinking of a towbar, £35 max

Budget between £70 and £100 a week for running the average car.

Say what? I get mine serviced by the main dealer, do 12k a year, have fully comp insurance. It doesn't cost me anywhere near £70 a week.

I just got rid of a car I bought brand new 9 years earlier.
    Cost £6000
    Fixes/repairs/MoT/tyres/brakes over 9 years £1000
    Insurance over 9 years £1800
    Petrol over 9 years £5000
    Tax over 9 years £1100
Breakdown cover (only bought it some years) £200
Trade in value when I got rid of it -£1000

Total cost about £14000 for 9 years of trouble-free driving. Or:
    - £1555/year
    - £130/month
    - £30/week
    - £4.26/day

    Bargain!
