Still JUST within June's budget! Will update tomorrow.

For July, I've decided not to include my regular Direct Debits for milk delivery and organic veg, as it's been quite difficult to remember to deduct tem at the right time. So, I'll deduct £40 for them, and declare my July target as £60.

Thanks - and good luck to everyone. Personally I do find the challenge very helpful - really focusses the mind, especially near the month's end!

  • Almost ready to declare for June at £219.23, but I can see we will definitely need bread for tomorrow morning so I'll get that today. I'm amazed we've come in under budget as I feel like we've been shopping loads! However, I've learned something new this month - between me and DH, we've been in one of the main shops 15 times:eek: already this month! At least it's mainly been small amounts I suppose, lots of £7 here and £8 there instead of a few big spends at £70 plus.

So....maybe it's just my "shopping style" to pop in and out every couple of days, and I might be better planning to do that and satisfy my shopping fix, instead of doing a massive shop at the weekend and popping in anyway because I desperately *need* something random like cardamom pods!

I'm sure there's a psychology research study in it somewhere!

On another note, I did have a complete NSD yesterday since I thought the budget was tighter than it obviously was. DH was away overnight so I made myself some spicy food for a change.

I had - homemade crispy chilli squid and king prawns (bought for a barbie which didn't happen on Sun as everyone was miserable after the football and wanted to watch cricket to cheer up ;)) egg fried rice - yum and hopefully much healthier than takeaway style!, and crispy seaweed - made with a couple of sheets of sushi nori, salt and sugar. So easy and yummy!

Crispy chilli squid was a mixture of Ching-He Huan's and Jamie O if anyone want the recipe...

Inlaws coming for a few days in July, got some old friends visiting this week and DH is on leave for 3 weeks, so will have to sit down and do some serious menu planning! July GC might be quite a bit more expensive...not sure what figure to go for yet.

Thanks to RosieBen, Mrs McM, and all the others who keep this thread running so smoothly!

Ok so I am declaring June at 377 which is under my 400 target so all is good - now to get July to come in under 350 my new target

Now I have joined SW this month and so need to watch the spends on fresh stuff and have realised I can mange without visits to Mr T ona regular basis - as i get paid 15th of the month I wont spend much from now till 15th july (cause havent got much left) but then seem to blow out in first week of payday so am going to try and level the spending a little and of course its summer hols coming up and i have weekends away camping and days out so need picnics and i usually spend loads with out even trying so am starting to look for finger foods i can freeze in the reduced sections ie sausage rolls and also start planning so i can bake stuff - this is a whole new me long may it continue!!!
Been stupid but have no regrets starting to slowly sort my finances now the kids are growing

Well I had to shop today, one day early :(

I figures I shall eat about £15 worth today and tomorrow, so I have to declare June over at £161.66

This means I have £50 already spent for July. I had trouble at £150, so I will try £175 for July. I am away at Knebworth the end of the month. I did manage an NSD yesterday though.

Declaring for June at €176.41 really pleased with that as spent a good deal to-day to give myself a start for July...will have visitors in both July and August so thought that it would be no harm to do a little forward planning...have been eating out of freezer as much as possible in June too, plan on continuing to do so to stay at my €200 again...will try to reduce again in September I think.

Thanks Pink, Rosieben and Mrs MC for all the hard work

Hi everyone - back from our 'mercy dash' to sick DD in Austria who is now recovering and looking forward (not!) to her exams and leaving to come home. Not sure what was wrong with her - awaiting more blood test results to find out. Anyway, we had to pop into a Waitrose at the motorway services last night on the way home to pick up some essentials and I am now officially £1.09 over budget - but given the stressful couple of weeks I've just had I am prepared to live with that!

So I am declaring for June at £271.09.

I am starting my new month today - a day earlier than planned, and because I have extra people to cater for (when DD1 comes home) and my DH has a special birthday I am actually going to icrease my budget this month rahter than decreasing it - so Mrs M when you start the new list for July please could you put me down for £350?

DH is also starting a new diet which means fewer carbs and more meat (not the whole Atkins' thing but based on it) and this means buying more expensive stuff - though I am going to try hard not to go over the top! He only needs to lose half a stone - aiming to do this by the 29th and his special birthday - fingers crossed. I am at home for the next few weeks so it should be easier to keep him under control!

Off to catch up with some of the posts.

    Love Moniker
