MRSMC - my total for June is £248.82, please put me down for £250 for JULY, thanks in advance.;)

I'm taking full advantage of produce from the Garden/allotment now, salad leaves, radishes, thinned out carrots which we have had raw in dips, thinned out gooseberries which I've made into Chutney so the remaining Gooseberries can get bigger and sweeter, had a few strawberries and getting excited by everything else that is getting riper by the day - roll on July.:D

Having a BBQ tonight when the Football is finished - let's hope the Ref finds some Glasses in Half time.

See you all on the July thread.;)

I think I shall declare early as I'm currently exactly on budget with full cupboards, freezers and fridge - June actual spend £240. I got fresh milk and masses of fruit this morning so there is no need to buy anything more (as long as we stick to the meal plan...) until the weekend.

We have DS birthday next month which may mean getting a few supplies for visiting family although I'm not counting his party food in the grocery budget. I shall therefore aim for £260 for July calendar month.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks.

    A x

hi everybody! Here at Chez Gintotmelinda we rather went over on the £350 this month(is too embarassed to mention total)....so Mrs M please put me down for £375 and I'll try to be good. £350 was a guess though but I am amazed to seee how much we are spending so there is room for improvement. It is for DH, DS(25 and still at home grrr) myself and puss Dolly Daydream.

    Hello everyone!

We here at casa del vatic very nearly did it! £221.77 for June with a budget of £220, so I'm pretty happy! Would have been quite a few £ under if we hadn't bought a giant sieve for my elderflower champagne batch today, but oh well. OH didn't know we were on a budget either, which means it was nice and realistic.

Put us down for £160 for July please as we're going on holiday at the end of the month, so it better not cost more than that!

I'm glad to see that my first estimate was so close! :j

You certainly have been busy - it doesn't seem 5 mins since your last little girl was born and now you have a little boy, congrats.

Hope you manage to have a meal out - you certainly deserve a few hours rest:rotfl:

  • Evening everyone,

right, im back on my GC wagon now lol, have not been on it properly in June so gave in:o

Ive done the maths for the month, the spreadsheet is filled in and accurate so my budget is £220 for July please Mrs M, thankyou.

Ive changed my shopping habits this last couple of months and have found what works for us. I now do a weekly shop, usually at weekend but thats just cos i havent been in work, that will change this month so will play it by ear. I have cut down on how much meat i was buying, mostly probably out of habit, and am slowly working through whats in the freezer, as there is tons of meat and fish-so much in fact i gave my sister a cool bag full of frozen meat as i had so little space, she was grateful at least!

The best thing is though, by changing my habits slightly, i now buy FR chicken only which im pleased about, so while im spending the same (or less sometimes) im making better choices, so that can only be good.

I have decided to start my month tommorow, as i havent touched my bank account yet since payday friday, so it will be easier to start from the beginning of a week.

Hope everyone has a good weekend xx

    AHAHAHA! Sorry :p always forget!!!

Ok... here is how I do it....

50g fresh mint leaves and stalks
    300ml double cream
    250ml whole milk
    100g sugar (I use granulated)
teensy drop of green food colouring (optional)

Bung it all in a saucepan and heat gently until the cream starts to boil slightly and the sugar dissolves.
Leave to cool and once cool strain out the mint leaves
put into an ice cream maker and churn until made or put into a tupperware box and mash up every 2 hours to remove the ice crystals

    Enjoy!

I usually have this with some chocolate sauce, but you could put choccy chips in the mix to make mint choc chip ice cream.

Made this mint ice cream today-absolutely gorgeous and soooooooo easy to make :T thanks for the recipe wssla00

Not been on here much this month but doing OK with the budget.

Can I declare a yearly total Mrs McC of £603.18 please.

Rather pleased with that total as my yearly budget is £1440 so half way through the year and a bit of leeway so far.

To all the newbies joining the challenge, can I say it does become easier with practice ;), I find the planning, listing and shopping around has become a way of life now and really enjoy getting a bargain and not wasting anything. We are also eating very well and enjoying our food.

    Good luck for July everyone.

Found half a head of celery in the fridge last night that was looking very sorry for itself so what do I go and do on the hottest day of the year so far?:D

Yep - make a saucepan full of potato, celery and mozarella soup - and all because a) I didnt want to waste it and b) I had no room in the freezer to freeze it for another day. Having said that it really was delicous and even mum complemented me - ( a rare occasion as she is of the no fussy food, no spices, no 'foreign' food etc brigade) :rotfl:
