Ah yes, I see now. This program goes a bit further in that it tests that the file is not corrupted and can test the codecs are configured correctly. In the picture below I've highlighted the buttons used to test the codecs. Click the "vid" ones in order (1,2, 3!)0

Our posts crossed! OK your video file is corrupted and it will not play. It's not a codec issue. Note it says "347mb are missing" in the Container section, that means a fairly large section of the file did not download. Your only option is to try to re-download the file0 -

The file is currupt & has'nt downloaded fully.

right ok i've unistalled all and kept the k-lite one
so now i should unistall and get the xvid one again
and in theory... once i have this ...then what? i just try and play it again?
Clearly not. Once you've actually completed the download you only need the XviD CoDec as I indicated.0 -
What are you talking? XviD CoDec will play both DivX and MPEG-4 video. I don't know about Cinepak...but what are the chances?
Don't take my word for it though, PM your mail addy and I'll quite happily send you an MPEG-4 video that neither the XviD nor DivX codec will touch if you want actual proof.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -

You don't need to do so...I understand the protocols. It is also why I knew XviD was needed in this case.
In general, most films are encoded with XviD or H-264 and sometimes in a MKV container. But by the size of the file and the error message my best guess was XviD.
Always default to installing as little as possible. A CoDec pack only if it is necessary, as it can conflict with CoDecs already installed on a PC.
Even if you were unsure, a cursory check with MediaInfo or G-Spot would have made it clear. In any case, I was sure it was the XviD CoDec.
Also what I wrote was that the XviD CoDec would play DivX video. In any case, not many people use the DivX CoDec to encode as they would have to pay to do so.
I refuse to install that Bloatware on any of my machines.0 -
The whole file wasn't there.
That's why VLC wouldn't play it all.
And WMP wouldn't even look at it, no matter what codecs were installed.
We can put it to bed now.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
