in a pickle about my Sky contract and house move

Hello
I am moving house next Friday but Contracts were only exchanged yesterday so i am frantically trying to sort out ending/setting up contracts with BT, electric company and so on.
I am wondering what is the best thing to do about my Sky contract. I have a basic TV package, the broadband and the phone calls (line rental with BT and separate). Total spend comes in about £25 a month.
I am thinking about canceling it all today (for next Friday) and then joining as a new customer from the new house in my husbands name. Can I do this as a 'new' customer to take advantage of any special deals/cashback? Or would I be better off just moving the contract with me?
I am also not going to be able to give 30 days notice of cancellation. Will I end up paying another months money?
Would appreciate your thoughts guys...

Hi
You need to give 30 days notice and they will most likey charge you for what ever is left in your contract say you sign a 12 month contract and you leave after 9months you still would have to pay the 3 months as its in your contract.0 -

We are well out of our initial 12 month contract but the 30 days notice is what I expected. Thanks0 -
You have to give 30 days notice and pay up to the end of the month even if you move sooner.
BUT it may not be as much as you think because you pay in advance for your Sky service, so it depends when in your month that you cancel. I just cancelled my Sky subscription, and the final bill will be £2.50.
Remember to cancel your DD as well (when I cancelled NTL many years ago, they continued to take the DDs for three months until I spotted it - I got it back through the DD guarantee and lesson learned!)
Re signing back on with Sky as a new customer - I believe you have to wait 6 months, but am happy to be corrected on that.
Good luck with your house move.

Thanks zzzLaisyDaisy - that's been really helpful.
I hope we can sign back up with Sky within the first month of the move... but as new customers! But if not, think we should take the contract with us. Not sure how much that would cost us as I assume they want a moving fee or something.0 -
Hi Yojojo, I sent sky a couple of emails asking questions about moving (as my house is up for sale) so that I had an idea how much it cost. They sent me replies but weren't answering my question!
I phoned them this week and they said it depended - I said that if I were to move it was a 'new build', with that the chap from sky said it would cost £60 to set up. I believe that it is less if the property you are moving to already has a dish. If you do call them with date you are moving in to new property they can arrange to set it up on that day or next!0 -
They don't charge a moving fee, but you are tied into a new 12 month contract.
However, when I phoned to cancel, they offered me £10 a month for the next six months to persuade me to stay (my normal monthly bill is £20, so effectively half price). As it happens I did actually want to cancel as I am going to freeview.
But, if you are still going to want Sky at your new house, it might be worth telling them you want to cancel as you are moving and will be having freeview at your new house, and see if they will offer you a deal to stay with them.
If you check out the offers available to new customers, you might be able to persuade them to give you that anyway.

If you dont give sky your new address you can sign up as a new customer from the new house in your name or your partners, i cancelled last month, moved re signed up with all the same details (bank account, email name etc) but because the address was different they didnt notice i was an old customer, got a decent deal aswell.:beer:0
