Wow, I don't think I even spent £200 on my last holiday (a whole fortnight).

I certainly don't have £200 of toiletries in my bathroom.

If you can afford £200 for a bag of makeup and such, you deserve to lose it. Simple as.

What a ridiculous thing to say ~ and it wasn't lost anyway.

Not ridiculous at all. If you leave expensive stuff in a room where other people that you are not acquainted with (cleaners) have access, then it's almost as bad as leaving it unattended.

If you have such expensive toiletries, then either bring the bare minimum or leave them at home and buy cheaper substitutes for the holiday.

    It's just common sense.

People shouldn't have to ~ they should be able to take what they want!

Others should not touch anything not belonging to them.

    Simple as ;)

    Why should you have to.

You might as well say you shouldn't buy expensive things for your home in case a local chancer happens to break into your house.

I agree with shellsuit - it was a ridiculous thing to say

This smacks of emotional blackmail on the hotel's part. However, the chances are that you earn a lot more than the cleaner does; £200 could well be her month's wages. Could you live with yourself if you did that to her?:A
  • This kind of thing is a well known scam!

Ask other holiday makers first and if others are effected too (which would greatly surprise me if there were none) and then go in a group to see the manager and demand that the hotel reimburses you or at the very least offers some free meals/drinks as apology.

What they do with their staff is not your responsibility, and that is a risk you take if you steal whilst at work.

If it is a package deal and a few people are effected then make sure that you complain both at the time and in writing when you return home.

No sympathy for the cleaner and no sympathy for the hotel - although taking expensive stuff on holiday is rather silly.

The reason being that the average lifetime of my make-up is around 3 years, making it around £10 per month for make up and most of my purfumes were gifts.

3 Years?? Urrrghhh! Yak! You do realise most makeup has an open shelf life of about 6 months due to bacteria etc, most shampoos have an open life of 24 months max (check the labels). these expensive buys might last you a while but you could be putting your health at risk so no way worth it.

That's what the cosmetic companies would like you to believe so you spend, spend, spend with them ;)
