I've merged this to the original descaling shower heads thread to keep the answers together. I hope that helps.

Sorry to jump in. Please could I have advice on this too. What do you do it the head is not plastic? Ours is one of the big over your head chrome sprinkler jobbies. You can unscrew it to soak, but is vinegar okay for chrome?

I wonder if some of you cleaning wizards can help with this one.

I usually use bicarb, white vinegar and sometimes loemons for cleaning but ive yet to figure out how to clean my shower head. Ive tried pouring things onto it but because its curved nothing really stays on it to make a difference.

Currently it is very chalky and many of the holes are completely or partially blocked. Any advice on how best to do this would really help.

    Thanks!

I unscrew mine and put it in a beaker with neat white vinegar, and leave it all day; it's clear by the evening.
  • Try this older thread - descaling a shower head.

I don't think it is, mine is metal (gold coloured) and the vinegar makes it go black. I came on here hoping how to descale it.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Since we moved into this flat 2 years ago, the limescale on the showerhead has been so bad, we only get a narrow trickle of water out of it. Is there a cheap way of removing this? I looked at Viakal today, but it was really expensive, and I didn't like the long list of chemicals either.
I'm guessing soda crystals or vinegar..but how much, and how long?

Leave it dunked in vinegar overnight.
I bought 5L for 85p at the local oriental supermarket.

    Hi Teria,

There's an earlier thread on descaling a shower head so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.
