Well it's almost a year since I first logged on here and decided to do something about the rut of a finacial mess I was in.

I'm happy to say that with the help of my supporting wife we have made an achievement and the way forward seems to have turned from a dark and desperate place to a bright striaght path.

Help on this site has shown us the way and turn our monthly financial defecit into a way to work better with our money. Yes, we have had to make some financial changes over the last year. Some major and some minor but every single one of them has helped us for the better and we have no regrets.

Now with almost £16k knocked off our debt in the first year. We are starting to feel much more comfortable with the pace of life we are living. We have been doing that little bit extra and have managed to save up some money to visit my wifes family overseas, which means our daughter gets to see her granparents again. This means a lot to all of us and we are very excited about heading out there later this month. The trip has already been paid for including spending money so we don't even have to worry about coming home and worrying about how we are going to pay for it.

We are going to try even harder on our return as by this time next year we hope to have knocked £35k off our overall debt. As the debt gets smaller, so does the interest so I doubt it will be a problem to match that goal. In fact we may even need to change it to make it a little more challenging to keep us on our toes.

Once again, thanks to everyone for your advice, support and motivation you have provided.

    Regards,
    No longer Ashamed !!!

Firstly, well done for what you have achieved thus far.

To go back to your original post, if you do really want to give up the smoking, can I suggest reading the following book:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0140277633

I have never smoked, but my brother in law and parents in law were both compulsive smokers of 20 years plus and all managed to stop through reading this book.

This is not a shameless plug - I hope it helps you.
My debts at 11th April 2011:
    Virgin Credit Card - [STRIKE]£1,900[/STRIKE] £1,500 (21.1% paid off)
    Nationwide Authorised OD - [STRIKE]£2,000 [/STRIKE] £1,500 (25% paid off)
Student Loan - exact amount TBC but circa £5,000

    I'm on the road! :T
