Most cars overead anyway so if you're needle was on 35mph its more likely you were doing 31/32 if it was a camera you will be save but I am not sure if the vans have to stick to the same rules. In fact I think the rules have been abolished now anyway.

i did the same thing when I first passed. I was driving down a very big dual carraige way 40mph limit and always has been. I was nervious as I was a new driver and missed the new 30 sign, I was doing 35mph straight passed a speed camera. I didn't see a flash but was nervious has hell when I realised what I had done. 35mph on the needle wasn't enough to trigger the speedo but that car over read by about 3mph.

Hopefully you won't get a ticket and you will learn the lesson of how evil speeding is. I just over four months left of my probation and I still hate cameras because of the 6 point rule.

I have nothing to add to this discussion other than that I tend to do 25mph in 30 zones.

so probably about 22 to 23 mph then :D
  • Last year I had to undertake a speed awareness course as I was clocked doing 36 mph in a 30 zone. Honestly didn't think it possible as I had just set off from a Red traffic light but had to take the course or take the points. Both of which cost £60 but at least with the course I don't have to inform my insurance company and I still have a clean license.

There was a full course of people and offences ranged from 32 mph in a 30 zone to obviously much higher on motorways. But we were all shocked at the 32 mph person being on the course.

and some seem to be taking a zero tolerance approach.

Unlike Swindon. Even Brunstrom's successor in North Wales says he is going less hard on the motorist. Funny how I keep seeing his Talivans in their usual places isn't it.

Of course no one else ever goes 1mph over the speed limit on these forums :D

Actually - I agree that it is very easily done - especially after doing motorway speeds. Whether you get away with it or not (and I genuinely hope everything is ok for the OP), maybe the shock and uncertainty may make it less likely to happen in the future ?

I've got cruise control - an absolute life saver. Stick it on 30mph (or whatever the speed limit is, or the driving conditions allow) and concentrate on the road rather than looking at the speedo every 5 seconds and looking out for cameras, hidden vans, police with speed guns, etc...

PS: (I do check the speedo as need be - not just click and forget)

And cause all the traffic behind you to bunch up, drive too close to each other, get annoyed, make it difficult for pedestrians to cross the road due to lack of "gaps", and possibly cause frustrated drivers to try dangerous and stupid overtaking manouvers.

But none of that is your fault, you drive as slow as you like.

I know someone who was prosecuted for doing 32 MPH in a 30 limit, in Worthing, Sussex. So the "Your Allowed 10% is Rubbish.!

Were you with the driver when he was "caught", and did you get to see all the corresponding paperwork?

I'm guessing there were other aggravating circumstances (such as maybe he gave the copper some backchat) because a 2mph overdrift could easily come about by the road having a slight downward incline, or even an adverse camber.
