£380 charge for going over BT broadband monthly usage?

a 40 minute show in HD would be 700mb a standard show would be about 350mb380GB!? In a month!? That's over 12GB a day. This is ridiculous amount. A 40min TV show will be around 700mb to download (would be less to stream off the net).
Hogging the bandwidth will have an effect on other users in the area. This charge is fair imo. It stops people using the internet excessively which will then have an effect on other users in the area.
They do notify you as I said earlier, they email you but they dont email your primary mail address they email the BT one they setup when you signed up for their internet, the one 99% of people dont even use. Strange they use this technique to warn you in th first month so they can charge you in the second when everything else they send you is paper basedi do agree with charging when you go over dont get me wrong but, surely they should do something when it starts racking up to £380? i would have thought you would be cut off or recived a letter by then? i just dont see how they can jusify it it sees ver exceive to me just like the old bank charges.
see my above point about them notifying you, I would challenge it on the excessive sideThe point im trying to make is i think the charges are unfair, she cant afford to pay this, they money has already come out of her bank which has left her overdrawn where she now faces more charges from her bank and she now has no money and 3 kids, i have lent her £100 of my own money to help her out. she recived no warning that he had gone over the limit, the 1st thing she knew was when her bank was over £300 in debt.
She knows nothing about computers or monthly limits, Theres no way should would have known he has gone over the limit, im sure if she did know she would not have let him.
I truley belive £380 is very unfair. imo she should have been cut off way before she could rag up such a huge amount. or recived some sort of letter no warning or anything? surely theres some sort of unfair charges act?0 -

BT give the first month over limit free then they start charging if you go over again. 380 GB is a massive amount over, was he watching 12 hours of movies a day?
Plusnet (BT owned) charge excess usage in 5Gb blocks for £5 but you can set a limit on how much extra you want to pay (as low as nothing if you want), perhaps BT offer this which would stop it happening again.
Last poster on this thread got their excess usage charge back.

rite i think i have found the reason for the high bandwhich, their freeview box stoped working last month and they have had tvcatchup, com on pretty much all day for the last month watching live tv. ironicly she couldnt afford the new digi box untill next month so used the internet as the soruce for the tv which has back fired. Not sure what she wants to do now she started crying on the phone, shes just worried about surving for the next month with no money.0

The 'fair' course of action would be for BT to force you onto their Unlimited plan.
I agree that sending an email to the account they set up with the plan is not reasonable. I've got all sorts of email addresses. A Sky one for my broadband, an O2 one for my phone. I don't look at any of them as I already have an email account!0 -
Just to add, BT's "Option 3" which is "unlimited" has a 100GB per month FUP.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Various places. I don't know who the main providers are I'm afraid but obviously it's not home to BT exchange that you have to consider. It's mostly the transatlantic bandwidth that costs.0 -
