Royal mail "fee to pay"

Took_Me_Away wrote:The post office may be many things but i do agree with the handling fee. You should put the right postage on it and if you dont you should have to pay an extra fee for there hassle. Its not like you have to take it so go and have a look and if its not something you want leave it.
Yes but it's not the sender who has to pay for their mistake is it, it's the recipient who has no control over what postage is paid when it's sent. It's and unfair system.0 -

Fair enough it's not the postman's fault - but this is really annoying! I would much rather see the thing and pay/not pay him then. Having to drive to the sorting office will be really annoying if I don't want it.
And of course it wasn't me that put the wrong stamps on it....Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0 -
I'd have to find out what it was to satsify my curiosity!
I doubt they'll describe the item to you over the phone, but if you go to the sorting office they'll show it to you before you decide whether to pay for it.
Agreed it's a huge pain going to the sorting office though. They've recently changed the opening hours of mine to shut every day at 12.30 (that's 'streamlining' for you - business speak for providing less service for more money) so I can no longer go after work.0 -
I wanna know what it is now too0

You can stick stamps on the card and send it back if that's easier
I prefer this way, as I've been stuck before unable to get it redelivered and not able to get to the sorting office to fetch itMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

I made myself 2 new Money Saving rules when I read about the new size and weight postage rates and the surcharges they're going to (try to) charge for 'underpaid postage' items.
Always decline delivery (if the postie knocks to ask and won't drop the surcharge) and never respond (if they leave a card).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Nobody holds a gun to your head and makes you pay for it0 -
In our post office they let you hold it up to the light (if its a letter) to try ad work out if you want it, its not the post office counter peoples fault its the Royal Mail,, postage underpaid by 1p and you get a £1 fine....still it wont be long until they lose the monopoly of they carry on like this0

Blame the various governments we've had the last few years. They would not let the P/O increase prices in line with inflation so they went into the red, took away a lot of business and so they now have to be inventive in costing.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
