Royal mail "fee to pay"

I've just got a card in my letter box telling me I need to go to the sorting office to pay £1.37 for an item. For a start, I don't know what this item is, and whether I want to spend the time and money getting it, for a second, why didn't the postman ring up to me? I've been in all day!
If i ring the sorting office (I imagine I need to leave it 48 hours) will they be able to tell me what it is? The only thing I can think it could be would be a freebie I sent off for from a link on this site maybe? I really don't know if I can be bothered???!!?

Do you enter competitions? Could it be a prize? The only thing the post office can do is tell you the description of the parcel and if it has a return address on it.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

This is probably a newly 'overweight' item i.e. it is a large letter with a small letter stamp on it.
Fact is that the difference in price is probably 7p, the Post Office are charging you 1.30 odd to get it back.
Someone remind me, why did the PO change the rules....?:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Its probably an item that has been caught in the cross over to the new post office charges? Someone may have posted something to you last week and it has been singled out this week as it hasnt had the right amount of postage paid?
I wouldnt have thought that they will be able to tell you over the phone what it is - they will probably tell you that you have to go in and pay the extra to receive the item!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
I'd forgotten about the changes in charges (how could I!)
It does say there's a £1 charge for underpaid items. That really sucks. What a ripoff. There's no charge if they deliver you a parcel and it has to go back to the sorting office.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0 -
Welcome to the new profitable postal service......:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0

I thought there was a 2 adjusting period so I doubt this is the case.
It may be something you have ordered, or like you say a freebie. The sorting office won't tell you what it is and in most cases you onnly need to wait a few hours before you collect unless you ask them to redeliverProud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0 -
Perhaps you should be more upset with the sender who has not attached adequate postage?!Gone ... or have I?0

The post office may be many things but i do agree with the handling fee. You should put the right postage on it and if you dont you should have to pay an extra fee for there hassle. Its not like you have to take it so go and have a look and if its not something you want leave it.0

my postman says he is no longer allowed to bring out the underpaid items ( he never used to charge me), his bosses only release them on receipt of my stamps for the feesAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
