I used microgynon for 7 years, never had any side effects for me, apart from getting pregnant last year because I missed one lol
:rotfl::T Post of the month. Is that your gorgeous little side effect in your avatar?

I used Microgynon 30 for about a decade with no obvious side effects. However, as everyone else has said, choosing the right pill is like asking how long's a piece of string. Someone has got to be the person who suffers the "rare or occasional" side effects of each brand.

The only thing I'd recommend is only choosing a mini-pill if you are super organised. The combined pill is sooo much easier because you've got about 12 hours to take your pill if you forgot to take it. I think the mini-pill is something like 2 hours. I often ended up taking my pill in the evening instead of the morning like I had planned to!

This used to be the case with mini-pills but not any more. I take Cerazette mini pill and there is a 12 hour window in which to take them.

Definitetly no weight gain on it either...I've been taking it for a year or so and have lost 5 stone in that time.

Microgynon gave me loss of appetite and I lost weight! I tried cilest which was ok, but mostly preferred Marvelon.

Have you considered the injection? Apparently it's more "today" than the pill!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Microgynon gave me acne. I get on well with Brevinor
  • Like everyone else has said, your body may very well react differently to different pills. Some mini-pills have longer time periods in which to take them, I think one of mine was 12 hours.

I've never been allowed to take the combined pill due to suffering from migraines (and so I'm at greater risk of stroke). However, I've tried every option of mini-pill available to me and to be honest all of them sucked, just in varying degrees. By the time I'd tried all of them the doctor said I should just stick to the one with the least problems. Considering that was constant bleeding and horrific mood swings, I'm no longer on the pill. ;)

Ones that I can remember the names of were: Cezarette (constant bleeding), Deprovera (the jab) was quite possibly the worst. I put on over a stone in weight, horrendous mood swings, bleeding constantly no sex drive whatsoever... Femulen (more mood swings and constant bleeding) and Micronor (more constant bleeding). I have to say I've not been on the pill for over 6 months and I'm still not 'right' in terms of menstrual cycle and moods, etc.

However, I suspect I've been highly unlucky in terms of the pill. You may be very fortunate and find the first pill you try is perfect for you - count your blessings! :) If pill taking isn't your cup of tea and you want something more long-term, then you may want to try the contraceptive implant. It's the same hormone that is in the jab, just a lower dosage, you get the implant put in your upper arm and it lasts for three years. A friend of mine has had it for two and a half years and swears by it. :)

  • Microgynon: 3 years - horrendous headaches, weight gain, bad stomach pain in 7-day break

Yasmin: 3 years - slight reduction in migraines (they only lasted 2 days of the 7-day break), no other side effects

Cerazette (mini-pill): 6 months - no side effects,
no bleeding ever (I saw this as a benefit!)

No longer able to take any pill due to recently diagnosed IIH (thought to possibly be caused by the pill, although vary rare).

Loestrin 20: Bled every day for 2 years til I went onto Microgynon 30 which gave me acne and made me put on a lot of weight. I'm on cilest now and it's really good. No PMS, no weight gain, improved skin and lighter periods. I went on it originally to help with periods, and then as time went on, the contraceptive effect was a bonus.

I was on Cerezette - no bleeding at all for 5 years....brill

    However........

Myself and quite a few people I know and also from another forum found that there was another bad side effect - loss of sex drive - it was recommended to me by my dr who said that it was good for people over 35 - and as I said no bleeds - but I made the decision that I can put up with a few days of having the painters in if it means that I can get jiggy again!

Was on microgynon for years. weight gain, mood swings, depression, loss of libido, all in all it was pretty bad for me. but didn't realise any of this til i stopped taking it and became a different person again in a matter of weeks!

injection for me was excellent, apart from the difficulty of getting nurses appointments to have it done.

Have had the three year implant for 18 months now, apart from very sore boobs for about three months last winter, it's been fab. am dreading having it taken out though!
