Contraceptive Pill advice

Hi all

Am thinking of going on the pill and wondered if any of you have found one that has low side effects e.g weight gain !!

I appreciate everyone is different but at least will give me an idea of the ones to avoid :)

Thanks in advance

Can not tell you which ones to avoid as everyone reacts sooooo differently.

For example - I've never had issue with microgynon. It's perfect for me. But it obviously caused lots of problems for sock-knitter.

Unfortunately, you just have to try a few until you find one that suits you and your body.

  • I was on Mercillon for years with no problem but now have the implant.

I have a feeling this thread may get closed, though as it may be interpreted as asking for medical advice...?

Microgynon caused me no problems with weight gain but I got frequent headaches when taking the 7 day break.

Yasmin - controls my period pain, haven't put on weight with it. Microgynon - put on weight, constant PMT and still had period pain.

Suffice to say, find one you like for what flares up around TOTM and work with that.

Microgynon made me put on a lot of weight. After stopping taking it I lost 2 stone.
I then went onto Celeste or however you spell it. Constant bleeding so stopped taking it after a few months.
Then Noriday but took a break from it to stop the bleeding since my body was messed up. Didnt take it again and Im not on any pill at the moment.
I think everyone is different where these kinds of things are concerned.

I used Microgynon 30 for about a decade with no obvious side effects. However, as everyone else has said, choosing the right pill is like asking how long's a piece of string. Someone has got to be the person who suffers the "rare or occasional" side effects of each brand.

I was on Microgynon for several years with no problems, but have heard of other people that weren't suited to it. After a suspected DVT, I had to change to the mini pill. I'm now on Cerezette and I haven't had a period for three and a half years - brilliant!

The best thing to do is discuss your needs and concerns with the practice nurse at your surgery. They will be able to help you make an informed choice based on your medical history - much more reliable than people's opinions!

I used microgynon for 7 years, never had any side effects for me, apart from getting pregnant last year because I missed one lol
