You may want to keep a dairy. Also, it's advisable to compare your child to his peers - so, talk to a parent and ask what can their 3 year old do? This way, you can compare the two children and this will make filling in the form easier.

My friends son has just been diagnosed with autism and has just turned 2. Mum seems to think they will get awarded full DLA at a sum of £500 a month and get a mobility car. This sound correct?

    No not at all !
Thomas was diagnosed at three, he was statemented and classed as severely autistic ...we applied for DLA and Thomas was awarded low care and low mobility looking back this was right in my eyes, Thomas was awarded at aged 8 high care and high mobility because his needs hadn't changed from when he was 3 he was still non verbal and still in nappies, Thomas is now 12 and just been awarded again hrc and hrm because like i said before he is still non verbal and still in nappies, he gets £488.33 a month and when we get the car from mobility it will reduce to £288 a month

Depending on how his autism affects him, he may not even get DLA. Like it has been said, he won't get HRM (if entitled) until he's 3.

My DD has mobility problems because of a skin condition....she even has a wheelchair......

    She gets High Rate Care

    NO mobility!!

You really should question this, as anyone getting HRC gets lower rate mobility automatically. Is your DD under the age applicable? I comnpletely ifnored the mobility part of my sons form putting not applicable on that part(Autistic spectrum) but they warded LRM-when I queried it they said that the LRM goes automaticlly with HRC. My son was 6 at the time.

As for putting the worst day, that simply is not correct. You need to give your child's range of needs/behaviour with time estimates and rates of recurrence, not just describe the worst day you have with him-that simply isn't the truth. I completed my son's claim by looking at my journal and describing the range of behaviour= care needs and rounghly how often the good/bad days occur. This was backed up by the senco at the school. If I had simply described his worst day then she would have painted a very different picture and I am sure my claim would have been thrown out.It took me almost a week to complete his form and then I wrote a very detailed statement at the back where I described those things not included in the questions and how different he is to one of his peers. His award came through in less than 2 weeks.

LRM is not awarded automatically when an award of HRC is given

Well, that is what I was told-in writing-in May 2009 when I queried why an award was given for my son when I had written not applicable on all the mobility questions. I was told that it was because anyone recieving high rate care would need supervision when out and about-the mobility part of his award was therefore given at the lower rate. I was also told the same on here when I queried here back then. I have been trying to locate the paperwork to post the exact wording on here but I archive in January every year and haven't found it yet, I will do if I find it.
