Hi, i have been claiming working taxcredit and childcare for 2 years but i gave up my job last year to care for my ill mother. I was pregnant at the time and just carried on claiming and didnt tell them of the change when i informed them of new baby they askd if my childcare had gone up an i said it had as we was struggling to live. I know i ve done wrong and I want to sort it out all out. my childrens dad has moved back in but i dont know what to do. I know we would have to claim as being unemployed but how do i tell taxcredit what ive done? I'm so scared now. I have try to sort it today i wrote to taxcredit and explained what i had done and why and went to job centre today and explained they said we need to inform taxcredit and claim jsa income based and child taxcredit. Can anyone advise on what i should do? I know ive been stupid but ive had that much on my mind the last 12 month that i just left it. I'm depressed and i cant carry on like this. I need it sortting out but dont know how. Please help

You have taken the first step of admitting that you claimed for benefits that you were no longer entitled to. You could face an investigation and you will have to pay the benefits back. It is unlikey that you will be prosecuted as long as you tell the truth and are compliant.0

I know i feel so so stupid but i didnt have the time to put all new claims in for jsa ect and with them stopping payments and waiting 4 new claims we wouldnt of been able to servive on nothing coming in, i should have just sorted i would of been better off but i have so much to do every day that i put it off and now its come to this. I'm to scared to even ring them but i have today sent a letter to the main office. Just hope we can sort this mess out. Hope yours is sorted now xx0

You would be better ringing them up and getting it sorted, it will take them ages to action your letter, which will only add to your worries0

I will tell them the truth i cant go on like this, waitting for a knock on the door. I wish i told them in the first place but the longer i left it the harder it is. I went and told the jobcentre and i have wrote to taxcredit i cant even ring them it makes me feel sick. But jobcentre have spoken to them and said i need to make contact with taxcredit and explain what ive done.alwaysonthego wrote: »You have taken the first step of admitting that you claimed for benefits that you were no longer entitled to. I really feel for you, you obviously realise that you have made a mistake and have taken steps to resolve this issue - if I were you I would call them asap and explain your predicament including your worries of people knocking at your door - the last thing you want is to worry yourself sick - don't forget your children still need you! Try to be strong and don't forget you can always to the the Citizen Advice Bureau they are there to help YOU. Let me know how you go.0

Thank you, i went in citizens advice to day but its a drop in between 9am and 12pm so i wil go in again tomorrow. Its been on my mind since it all started but i let it carry on like an idiot and now i'm in a rite mess.0 -
You just need to be honest - try and maybe write something out so you know what you are saying the longer you leave it the worse it will get, I am sure they will be understanding and pleased that you have come forward yourself rather than being reported by someone else. You need to face facts too you will probably have to repay what was over claimed but you can do that over time - they won't make you pay more than you can afford - this is where the Citizen Advice Bureau can help you they can negotiate for you they really are extremely helpful. Go on give it a try. Good Luck0

Thanks i'm going to go really early to citizens advice and tell them everything and i wil have to ring taxcredit. Will i have to say that ive been fraudently claiming or my claim should of stopped a year ago? I hope they dont send the police for me i have to look after my kids and mum. I know i wil have to pay every penny back and i will, i want to pay it back as i wasnt entitled to itbrunodiluno wrote: »You just need to be honest - try and maybe write something out so you know what you are saying the longer you leave it the worse it will get, I am sure they will be understanding and pleased that you have come forward yourself rather than being reported by someone else.
