I have only ever steamed them whole, but they are yummy and look very pretty!

Try the Abel and Cole website. They have recipes for most veg there. http://www.abelandcole.co.uk
  • I've seen them stuffed but never made them.

I think it was just cut top off and hollow out; make whatever stuffing you like using the flesh; refill and stand them all up together in a caserole dish; add some water/stock/wine; cover with foil and cook in oven ~mark 5 until they're tender and most of the liquid has evapourated.

Could use any stuffed veg-type filling.

  • Hi guys, I had patty pan in my organic veg box last week and I'm ashamed to say it's still in my veg rack as I've not a clue what to do with it...

Any ideas before it goes off?!
  • Treat it the same as butternut squash, there's a current thread on that with loads of ideas. I've got some munchkin squash that my mum gave me. They're almost too cute to eat, but I shall look up butternut squash ideas for them when I get round to eating them.

    it's quite versatile
cook in boiling water or steamer for 5 mins then slice and fry in butter
cut into large chunks and roast in oven with selection of veg eg peppers, onions, courgettes, tossed in oil
they can be eaten raw with salads or mixed with mayo/sour cream to make a potato salad alternative
there's no need to peel them

I often do roasted veg, red onions and aubergines are good too and toss in some cherry tomatos for last 5 mins
spray with low fat oil and they are very low fat

Just as the title says...What is the best way to cook a 'Patty Pan'? I've been given one and if it's nice then i'll have a go at growing them next year

They're quite bland, so I chop them and add to casseroles or pasta sauces :) Very easy to grow, though.
