It may be too late but the cover is 10 years @ 76% I have that in writing.

However I consider this unreasonable as its a design defect and Renault should pay all.

All four of my windows have failed at some point, im not paying £500 and have taken them to the small claims court. They have not provided a defence so I have requested and await a judgement any day now.

That's of interest to me because my car is 9 years old. One year after they "fixed" my window as per the OP it stopped working again, and subsequently the front driver's side window no longer works, nor does my husbands rear passenger window (Similar model).

I'm loathed to go to Renault again for anything after my dash failed and I had that replaced as a reduced price losing the mileage which is officially recorded at Renault in case I ever sell the car which I doubt anyone would want with false mileage.

Fortunately where I live there is a French, French car specialist who does everything at a good price and really knows and looks after our cars so I'm going to ask him to take a look during its MOT in July.

I'd be interested to know how you get on please Tony?

not working windows can be a result of the power switches in the drivers door.

in my renault 2004 megane, i took the switches out to find that they are subceptable to getting damp from water channeling through the door, zip tieing the switches harness and cables tighter toghter round the plastic connectors helped make a more true contact, i also dabbed some door hindge greas over them to protect them from further water ingress.

another contrabuting factor to the window motor regulator going is lack of grease around the window cables, and the motor is unprotected to water, the more and more they go dry, the more and more it heats the motor up to pull them round the poly wheel in the door, they need grease to move more freely so this should be a sheduled in maintenance every year to pop the door card off and get the cables greased up and spray some water dispersant or electrical contact cleaner, and smear a film of grease oover the motor and contacts itself.

This has just happened to my '07 Megane Convertible.

I've been quoted £130 under the repair scheme by my local dealer. It's just out of its 1 year used warranty, so I'm inclined to sue, too.

which means you can get a used motor for £75 plus the vat with a 3month warranty and they also do a fitting service for just £60 proper bargain they just need your car for an hour or so and presto no more getting wet when it rains i really reccomend these guys they know their stuff their number is 01922 632261 try them they tell you straight what the problem is unlike the main dealers (main stealers more like)

But that works in more than the discounted price you get at the Renault dealer does it not, or am I missing something?

Surely the fact that they are willing to pay 76% of the repair costs on a 10 year old car (seven years after its warranty has expired) will mean this will go in their favour?

I've just bought a 2004 laguna with a faulty passenger side electric window.

Given the noises its making it sounds like the cable has broken. A new regulator is £28 delivered on ebay and I can have it fitted for £20.

Likewise the electronic bit that fails can be recoded for less than £30, by return, from ebay suppliers.

Far cheaper and far less hassle than even the 'discounted' main dealer prices.

IANAL, but I would have thought that their admission (through the approved scheme) that there is a problem will count against them. But not putting in a defence at all makes for an automatic victory by default.

The legal question is whether something sold is of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. The Sale of Goods Act applies to second hand purchases, and in my case I bought my vehicle just over a year ago from a Renault Main dealer. Therefore I see the age of the vehicle as being of only secondary importance (in establishing liability).
