If you have access to one use a steamer - like a polti or similar, that shifts it, i just put stuff in cool bags and also put as much as poss in the fridge . I have frost free fridge freezer but seems to get build up of ice in the pull out drawer freezer part (it quite a fancy one)

I think because it needs really hot water and glass bowls take really hot?
Otherwise don't know. I go in just with haidryer, on highest hottest setting and crumble off loosen big pieces og ice with hand.
Done and dusted witin an hour.

I have freezers that have like metal shelves that plastic drawers slide onto. I've got stainless steel baking trays that fit the shelves perfectly. I fill those with boiling water and the trays get hot themselves as well as giving off steam for defrosting.

I use a fan heater and the job's done in 20 mins. If possible I also usually wait for a frosty day, so that I can put all the contents outside to keep frozen.
  • I used a Wallpaper Stripper as recommended by MSE and it worked!
I put the food (useful food) into black plastic bags stuffed with newspaper to stop melting with ice on to keep from thawing. I plonked them into old Lakeland boxes that I should have thrown out lined with packaging to provide insulation.
I fired up the stripper and off it went! it must have taken half an hour or more instead of the overnights needed to do the job previous.
As a result I was able to put back the food still intact with the ice encrustations back into my Freezer.
    Now to do the fridge!

  • Equally any powerful Steam implement should have the same effect ie a specially dedicated device like Karcher cleaner though that may seem like a mallet to crack open a nut.

  • I dried cabinet and smeared oil on kitchen towel as advised to stop refrosting. Wonder how effective that will be?
