Just did this yesterday, with a hair dryer and a knife and loads of huffing and puffing...nearly lost the will to carry on with the day !......lol. Will be reading these posts when mob working properly.

It was however nice to finally find out what I had

It is much nicer to replenish with fresh supplies once you've used up all your good stuff.

just reading the older thread on tips
why do they say glass bowls of hot water , why cant i use plastic which is what most of mine are
I think it may be a 'safety' thing
A lot of plastic bowls tend to deform rather easily when hot, and you don't want to be slopping boiling water whilst bending down to put a bendy bowl in the freezer...Also some are more insulating than glass so that the heat doesn't radiate to the sides as it would from a glass bowl?

When I defrost my freezer, I just chuck all the food into a black bin bag and wrap it in the spare double duvet before putting it somewhere cool -- outside in the communal hall in the winter, or in the north facing boys bedroom in the summer as it never gets warm in there. I have never had anything start to defrost when I do this, even loaves of sliced bread are still rock hard by the time I'm ready to reload the nice clean freezer!

I use a plastic mallet. Very satisfying...

I used to use my metal meat trays with hot water in as they heated up too so the bases helped the defrosting process.

A couple of weeks ago, I was battling with one of my freezers (some nameless person didn't close the door properly when the hot weather was on!). This freezer has rigid plastic drawers on each shelf. I didn't bother with bowls/trays, just added kettles of water to the (empty!) drawers themselves.

Be careful of exposed heating elements as in a hair dryer, risk of electrocution.

Also knives can easily penetrated the insulation and release the gases in old fridges and freezers

Our lodger, who has been a little slack in his domestic operations:mad:, left the freezer door open. The food is still frozen but the freezer is furred up like you wouldn't believe:eek::eek::eek:. Has anyone got any suggestions for

    A) Keeping all the stuff frozen while I try to defrost it?
    B) The quickest method to defrost it?

It's a 6 foot upright freezer. Also I'm going to have to catch the water where possible as there's going to be a lot!

    Thanks!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!
