thank-you
Took about 3 days i think.
Yeah i know what you mean, when you lay the icing on it concentrate on pushing the corners in first, and then smooth the corners, any 'pleats' you have you need to pull away from the cake and smooth downwards so they disappear. its pretty hard to explain! but it just takes abit of practice xx:dance:

Stardrops42 gave me a recipe for using trex as a topping & although I didn't ammend the quantity making FAR too much it was divine.
Here is the message she sent me.
This is a recipe I got from an American site so I'm afraid it's in "cups" but you can easily convert the measurements online if you don't have cups:D It makes quite alot so I sometimes half it but it does keep for upto a week in a plastic carton unrefridgerated;)- 1-1/3 cups Trex (white box in the butter section)
1/3 to 1/2 cup milk, depending on consistency needed
3 Tbsp Powdered Dream topping
2-3 Tbsp vanilla extract, depending on your personal taste
2 lbs icing sugar
- There’s no wrong way to mix this. I usually mix all but the icing sugar for a minute or two, then gradually add the icing sugar(sieved), The longer the mixer runs, the smoother it gets. I sometimes add a bit more milk depending on the consistency I want. You can add any flavouring you want to this for instance, orange extract added with a chocolate cupcake is gorgeous!!
0 - 1-1/3 cups Trex (white box in the butter section)

Hi everyone, I'm always on here looking at all your lovely cakes! I havent really been making cakes long, I'm doing a course at the end of may which I'm really looking forward to! These are the last two I have made...
I just wanted to ask, when you make tiered cakes, do you have to put anything between the layers of cake or do you literally just stack them up?
thankyou0 -
mmmmmmmmmmm choccy cakes!! look fab
yeah you need to put dowels in the bottom tier to support the next one. you can get plastic or wooden ones, but as a cheap solution drinking straws make fabulous ones!!!

nuttymummy- I was just looking at your cakes on facebook, they are amazing!!
thanks, so you just stick them in the bottom tier and then put the next one straight on?
sorry I have another question aswell! what kind of wire do I use for the decoration on top of the cake, where it all comes out and you can curl it and stuff....does that make sense?! Can I just stick it straight into the cake?
Thankyou!0 -
the next one up needs to go on a cake card, and the cake card rests on the dowels x
and the wire you are looking for is florists wire, comes in different thicknesses and colours!
if its a large topper of wires you can get a flower pick/cake pick. its like a thin little tube with a point on the bottom, you put your wires in that (can secure with icing or putty etc. and you push the pointed end into your cake
I have a giveaway at the moment on my cake page. once i hit 1,500 likers im giving away a box of cupcakes!:
