:hello:HI ladies! Especially toots! Lovely to have you back.

I'm all on my own at the moment - DS1 gone to some loud noise thing (music?? No, that would contravene Trades Description Act;)), DS2 at Twickenham with his uncle - a long awaited Christmas present, he's having a brilliant time! DD is over at boyfriend's, and OH is outside cleaning the barbecue. I don't do cars, electrics, plumbing - or barbecues.:D

I've been gardening on the allotment this afternoon, and have prepared the bed where I intend to plant strawberries. I also weeded loads, and picked lettuce leaves, spring onions and radish. Looks like the round carrots and the broad beans will be ready next weekend. Yum.

    Hi everyone

Vanilla - I vaguely rememebr you losing it ages ago - that is brilliant news.
Good to see you home Toots

I can't comment on spelling because I simply can't spell or indeed type - as anyone who has talked to me on Facebook can confirm :p

Has anyone heard from Soappie - she seems very quiet or is that just me skimming? Soappie, if you are lurking I hope all is ok with you and yours.

Busy weekend - walking in the rain at Stanton Mooor yesterday, and finding the best food pub in a long time here, and today we went to the Dorothy Clive Gardens in Shropshire which was just lovely. I have come back full of enthusiasm and expensive ideas!

House is a tip though, today I have filled and emptied the DW, and washed DS1s bedding and nothing else :o. I have next week off and need to tidy before the MIL visits at the weekend.

  • I take it all back trust me to disagree with a teacher :( I still won't be using practise any time soon, though, so there :p :rotfl:

Never mind penpen I'm sure valli has explained this to me before, but in one ear, I don't seem to be able to retain stuff as I could.

    Bl**dy clever these flyladies, though.
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

Practise is also the american spelling of the noun... trust me... I have to write american (using Websters as my reference...) every bl**dy day at work and it gets to me...

To quote Fowler's Modern English Usage (just so we're clear this is properly researched ;)) 1996 edition

practice, practise. In standard BrE, practice is invariably used for the noun and practise for the verb. In AmE practice is the dominant spelling of both noun and verb; but practise is also used by some writers for both parts of speech

    Does that mean I'm right?

mind you I didn't know that this ... was actual punctuation and had a name until I was *cof* over 40 and I am just getting to terms with ; and : but I have cracked the hyphen!

    and it didn't hurt :rotfl:

curtains back up - don't know what the fabric is exactly, and they're lined but the wind dried them quickly. I have a stack of stuff to pass onto my neice for her car booting and that's when I've picked out books which I'll take to work, unused pencils which can go to the shoebox place (mum knits hat-and-glove sets for them; she can take them) and binned tonnes of stuff. And what did I do off my list? Sweet Fanny Adams!

re the conkers. She's heard they're a deterrent for spiders. Don't know about that BUT they block the vacuum *rolleyes*

Thanks everyone, i'm still in shock that he found it. It's been missing nearly a year.
Toots lovely to hear your home.:j
I'm no where near finished the house and hubby hasn't helped much so it's going even slower. We had a wee talk today and hopefully he'll help more this week. I just need to realise it won't be done before they finish school.:(

I've spent the afternoon in the garden and boy is there loads to do, i have a little mad idea of building a homemade green house. So i've looked at some online and i'll draw up some plans tonight.:D
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

It's not disagreeing with a teacher that's the problem, it's disagreeing with an editor :p (which is what I used to be... a long time ago..)

They do, but she only needs a few on the window sills, in a bowl. You can also get some spray with horse chestnut extract in, which I spray round the windows in autumn, and I use electromagnetic/ultrasonic plug in thingies. It all helps, but there are always some that are immune. Best thing is to keep clutter-free and clean - then there is nowhere for them to hide and nothing for them to eat...:D

Done nothing today, well not off the list. Got a 12 mile run in, my last big run before the 1/2 marathon. Have had the kids tidying their bedrooms (quite unsuccesfully). Will start on the new list tomorrow and should have a better week, esp since i'm off work for 1/2 term.

well done with the 12m run Austinhead - thats impressive!!!

I had a teeny weeny spider descend from the light above my hospital bed the other night - it was amazing watching it spinning down to the bed and then crawl all the way back up - I didnt kill it.

Looby has been shown your post Greenbee

    conkers are being re-deployed;)

I have done my ironing *rubs back*

behind my kitchen a nest of baby spiders has just hatched - they were being brave the other day and exploring but they're back in a huddle today (presumably because of the imminent rain). I like spiders...it's earwigs I don't like *shudder*.

    question I have been asked...

Does the sun rise in the east and set in the west everywhere?

    *rolleyes*
