300,000 jobs in public sector face the axe

Or eastern europe, or cuba, or north korea etc.
Her point, i suggest, is that it has never been EXECUTED in its purest form, which is true. But it's been tried numerous times and failed. And why? Because it runs counter to every human instinct there is.0 -
The 'where has socialism ever been tried?' argument is one of the most tired of tired old cliches.
Whenever a socialist state fails, the Left says 'Oh, no! That wasn't socialism - that was blah-bah-blah'.
The fact is that whenever people's natural wish to better the lives of themselves and their families is rigorously controlled 'for the sake of fairness and equality' a ruthless oligarchy takes control, inflicting, at best, dire poverty on everyone except themselves and, in the overwhelming majority of cases, creating a vile, murderous, police state.0 -
So what? Do you think that giving yourself a feeling of schadenfreude by seeing public sector employees sacked in huge numbers will make things any better? Most public sector workers choose to work there because they prefer to look for security and stability over financial gain - those who aim for financial gain alone work in the private sector or as freelance contractors. You have to take the rough with smooth.
What planet are you living on? This job security and stability COMES WITH financial gain these days in the public sector. The average wage in the public sector is now higher than the people who pay their wages! How much longer can this continue?
It is not schadenfreude, THIS IS REALITY biting.
Bring out the axe.0 -

So I'll take that blatant bluster as meaning you can't think of one...0 -

you've close enough described Nazi Germany... they were 'lefties' weren't they?? :rotfl:The fact is that whenever people's natural wish to better the lives of themselves and their families is rigorously controlled 'for the sake of fairness and equality' a ruthless oligarchy takes control, inflicting, at best, dire poverty on everyone except themselves and, in the overwhelming majority of cases, creating a vile, murderous, police state.
your argument that all things 'leftie' is poor to say the least.
you would look much better if you made the point that all extremism left and right wing is crazy and doesn't work anywhere instead of banging on about your obsession about 'lefties'0 -

Ideally, I'd like a Lib Dem voter to tell me...
No answers to that one, then..?0 -
dont forget many will be eligible for housing benefits
that could add up to a lot of money on top
I know the civil service needs reigned in,bit culling jobs isnt always going to be the as
300,000 added to the unemployment figure may create a relative short term saving but where are the jobs going to come from?
another 300,000 not spending/paying income tax isnt going to
Hate to admit it but you are right.. we are going through a restructure at work (Gloucestershire council) and there will definately be redundancies; however, if I am one of those, the housing benefit will look after me as I am a single parent with a young child in a private rental. And I will get Income Support and CTC too.. so I won't be any worse off if I was laid off. BUT I want to work; and I am looking for another job before the cull begins as I don't want to be a stay at home layabout on benefits..
Making me redundant in one hand and giving it to me back in benefits = crazy.0 -

Anyway, seriously...
I think you're the one being silly if 'where has socialism been tried?' is a serious question. Probably a third of all the countries of the world have had a government that identifies with a socialist ideology at some point in the twentieth century...virtually every country in Europe has tried one, Central and South America, the republics of the Soviet Union, China.
By the way Liz, what's your solution to not making public sector cuts? Bear in mind the deficit is £150bn, and total income tax receipts, for example, are £140bn.0 -

Actually, there is a case to be made that Nazi (the word derives from 'National Socialism' after all) thinking is indeed an offshoot of socialism. Certainly, it was a far cry from Hayek or von Mises (go on Chucky, look them up). It's debated quite a lot in political circles.
But that red herring aside, you are, as usual, wrong.your argument that all things 'leftie' is poor to say the least.

I simply couldn't care less how I 'look' to you, Chucky. You're just a self-appointed milk monitor here, who pops into threads, trying to show how smart you are by picking holes in things you clearly fail to understand.
LizEstele claims socialism has not been tried. As I and others have demonstrated, it has and it has failed. You have contributed nothing to that discussion, one way or another.0
