300,000 jobs in public sector face the axe

We are NOT broke.
The same phrase was repeated by the Greek government on a regular basis........until they conceeded they actually WERE broke.
It depends what is meant by the phrase "Broke".
Broke as in bankrupt, then we're probably not.
Broke as in spending exceeds income, then yes.
Broke as in financial markets swirling like vultures and the IMF ready to tell us how to do things......possibly.
Governments always run a deficit and borrow the rest, whether its WW2 or post-war regeneration, but there always has to be a plan to actually pay it back, something that Greece forgot about and something lacking in all the parties pre-election manifesto's.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
The military have been mollycoddled for far too long. This is the one part of the public sector that has been immune from the usual cutbacks - it's time this changed.
Your cynicism and self-interest is a sight to behold mark. Cut the military (which I agree with, by the way), so long as your civil service job is protected, huh?
I for one welcome 300,000 public sector jobs being cut. The waste is a national disgrace, as is the number of non-jobs.
Those who say all these people will then go on the dole are wrong - most will find new ways to earn a living in the private sector. That is exactly what happened when Ruth Richardson did a similar thing in New Zealand in the early 1990s.
In my area, the public sector are currently searching to recruit 4 Breast Feeding Coordinators at a salary of £35-£40k each. I see the Forestry Commission is looking to pay someone £52k for a Tree Liaison manager.
I mean, seriously - !!!!!! is this all about?0 -
Where are these jobs, Id love to be a tree liasion manager. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Well, maybe this is the answer to the multitudes of idle 16-25 year olds - why not?
The armed forces of today are high tech, very advanced compared to the days of conscripted "Cannon fodder." Quite simply, the forces don't want the layabouts. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
I don't have a 'great man'. It is a testament to the limitations in your thinking that you assume anyone who doesn't cherish the persistently failing dogma of socialism must be a Tory.
The long and short of it is your remedy doesn't work. Every time it has been tried, it has failed and, most often, led to societal misery of untold proportions.
And you don't need to worship at the altar of Margaret Thatcher to know that.
Pray tell me where socialism has ever been tried?0 -
By the way, can anyone tell me what the knock on effects in the supplies and services sector will be of 300,000 public servants being sacked...?
Ideally, I'd like a Lib Dem voter to tell me...0 -
