The Daily Mail has revealed how you can tell which side of your car the filling nozzle is!

A silly story, but I must admit I only realised how to tell recently. The secret is the little arrow on the fuel gauge which points to the filler side.

But is this true for all cars?

I'm sure I saw this a while back and think it's a joke.

None of mine have an arrow.

The worst fuel filler experience I ever had was after running out of petrol in a huge, pink, 1950's Cadillac borrowed from a friend. I had petrol in a can, but I just could not find the filler anywhere. It might not have been so bad if it hadn't been in the town centre on a Saturday night. I got lots of rather unhelpful suggestions from the gathered crowd.

It was under the left hand tail lamp.

Not all of them have an arrow,

There is also a suggestion the filler cap is whichever side the hose is in the little graphic..... that's bollox too.

    Its all bollox.

Aye, as can been seen in the op's pick the arrow points one way, and the hose is on the other side :D

I'm surprised it's even an issue with most cars, as normally there is only one little opening on the car that could be the iller cap cover (and on many new cars there's even a little lever in the car you pull to open it which makes it even easier to find).

    Does it even matter?

99% of fuel hoses will reach the other side of the car for you to refuel anyway.

It is if you position the car close enough to the pump.
I've never had a problem with the hose reaching across the car.

All cars that have the triangular arrow, yes.

I've known this for years. It's even in the owner's manual.

I've never proved whether the pump symbol itself can be reversed; I always assumed the symbol was standard.
