I was using scant 1 litre of UHT semi skimmed milk and two tablespoons of Tesco Value natural yoghurt straiight in the tub overnight but it was too runny. I have just tried scant 1 litre of semi skimmed UHT with two tablespoons of Yeo Valley Natural Yoghurt and I was rewarded with a slimy lumpy funny tasting mess.
What am I doing wrong? I want reasonably thick natural yoghurt [stamps feet]
I am about to try making my own as I've just used my last sachet of Easiyo.
In post #12 of this thread Sophiesmum suggested this:
Hi PP
I use my easiyo all the time without the sachets.
You will need a litre carton of whole UHT milk, a starter pot of natural yoghurt,(ihave found yeo valley the best 38p asda), about 3 tablespoons of dried milk.
Put yog in your large jar, addthe uht milk up to mark on side of jar, add dried milk powder. Stir and put lid on.
Boil kettle and fill the big white flask up to the top of the red baffle.
Put the tall jar of yog mixyure into the big white flask and screw on lid.
leave for 8-12 hours or overnight.
Voila - lovely creamy yoghurt.
(save a few tablespoons of this to start next batch)
You can store in big jar or put in smaller containers it is up to you. I find it keeps about a week too. Add your own flavours, fruit etc as you need to.
Hope this is clearer for you to follow.

It seems like it's the dried milk powder that thickens it and also whole milk. I shall be trying this method.0 -

I make lots of Kefir and Yoghurt, sometimes from Easiyo sachets, and sometimes from scratch. If making either Kefir or Yoghurt from scratch, I find a 35p tin of condensed milk from Aldi topped up to a litre with whole milk will make the creamiest thickest yummiest yoghurt ever!0 -
I always make my own yogurt using the above methods and have only had 1 really runny batch (think my starter had been going too long) in the Easyio too - it does keep for quite a while in the fridge (never have to throw any out any way as its always eaten!)
I make one batch during the day and put it in the fridge and then make another batch over night (you can buy a spare tub with 2 small tubs to take to work in Lakeland for £3.99) and leave the second batch to strain through a cotton pillowcase to make fromage frais.
We either add just vanilla esscence or Asda do a lovely rasberry sauce in a bottleKondo'ed 76 items from wardrobe, 4 carrier bags of books0 -
A blob of jam stirred in is a good way to sweeten it too.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

If you want the sachets they can be bought here and here.
I have found both sites to be very helpful and have very good service. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
I hope this is the right place to pop this question?
I have purchased an easiyo system, with a hope of reducing my outgoings on yogurt.
I wondered if anyone knows if it possible to create yogurt, with this system, without using the recommended sachets?
Any help gratefully received

Hi, I use the same method as PP, but one thing to note, is that I can only get it to work with whole UHT milk. I have found numerous times if you use skimmed or semi skimmed milk it turns out like yoghurt drink.
Hope this helps.0
