Great minds Hintza - I was going to ask what the initial price was, or at least what proportion of the price does this extra £5700 represent?

I'm sure you can buy a 3ft book case, a 6ft head board and 2 coffee tables for a lot less than £5,750 in the States.

Tell them to throw those bits in the bin and carry on as before (with what you had told them you were taking)

It may be a case that the extra items means they cannot get everything in a single container so a second is required.

Used the Removal Group some years ago and they were DIRE. Absolutely useless.

Move was for less than 20 miles. They turned up 4 hours late. 2 'crew' instead of the promised 3 and a much smaller van than paid for. They were told that we were in a bungalow despite the fact that we had a 3rd floor apartment. At midnight we were still unloading the van with both my wife and I helping.

Absolutely appalling customer service. At the time they stated that they were members of BAR. They were not.

Claimed 50% of the removal cost back from them which, when faced with Court, they eventually paid.

    Never, ever again though.

Oh, I should add that they only act as brokers. They do not actually carry out the service themselves.

Given our experience, I would heavily expect that they have miscommunicated to the removal company and are now left with a problem.

    Hi
Yes they are only brokers thats what I found out afterwards. The original quote was for £2050 so as you see a huge difference!! The most I was quoted by other companies was £3800, so I think they are way of the mark and my offer of paying an extra £2000 was fair. I just want this sorted quick, they are being quite agressive and threatening, help!!

I copied and pasted this from their terms and conditions,
The quotation provided is for a fixed price for the work presented. It is based on our contracting to
remove and/or store the goods subject to these terms and conditions.
    17) The quotation will remain open for a period of 28 days from the date of the quotation. After then it shall
be treated as having been automatically withdrawn. If you wish to proceed on the basis of our quotation
then you must complete the quotation and any related documents (as advised to you) and return them to
us with payment of a deposit. If, following our review of the documents that you provide, we are happy
to proceed then we will send you our Confirmation. Your deposit will be returned if we decide not to
enter a contract of removal/storage with you.
    18) A legally binding contract will be formed when we send to you our Confirmation, and until that stage all
discussions between us are strictly subject to contract. The contract will be subject to these terms and
conditions. You should only sign and return the quotation and related documentation if you are happy
with the quotation and these contract terms and conditions and wish to enter into a legally binding
contract on these terms and conditions.

They seem to have you over a barrel. They have your goods and I assume your leaving soon as well.

I could see a solicitor at this point (or at least CAB) and possibly a complaint to trading standards but other than paying up or following Chris15s idea I doubt your going to get a quick fix.

    Excellent idea CHR15.

    Op, have you considered that?

Believe me I would throw them away if it would make a difference. They are the items that were not in the quote.
The Removal Group only quoted me for the items in the 'additional info' box they have at the end of their form, they missed all the other things in the room by room section as it were.
So they quoted wrongly. This is why I offered to pay an extra £2000 as it takes it upto the other 2 quotes from companys who actually visited the house and looked at the stuff. I cannot see why the Removal Group think it should be another £5700.
Its obviously their mistake, but I would not have used them if their quote was so high.
Are they legally bound by their quote as I in the terms and conditions I am?? They wont compromise and im stressed

Yes the ought to be bound if they have simply miscalculated.

Did you pay by credit card?
