try a local broker. They will have expertise and know how to help you. There is very few of them now, but they should now what to do and you should get a better level of service.

Who are you with now (for interest) that want it cancelling ??
I'm no expert, but i'll give you my opinion, my support and my experience. Its all i have.

still around 3000 of us :)

Agree with Falze theres loads of insurers taht a broker will have access to that dont even ask about BR for car insurance and paying monthly shouldnt be a problem either.

One thing to be vary wary about is that you need to act quickly and physically cancel your insurance with your existing provider as one of the questions you will be asked is have you ever had your insurance cancelled or special terms imposed, this isnt favourable when obtaining new quotes.

And also be careful with direct debits. Alot of Insurers use credit agreements or finance companys to collect the instalments, which are technically loans.

I know the rules about obtaining credit once BR, so be careful. There is a difference with Credit Agreements and direct debits. Ask to be placed with an Insurer that has there own direct debit facility.

I know, but sometimes i think were fighting a losing battle, especially on the motor side of things. Expertise and knowledge sometimes dont compete with stupidly cheap prices.

This is only applicable if you are getting credit of more than £500, so if your insurance is less than that, you do not have to inform them of being BR. And if the insurer isn't bothered about the BR and if the amount is over £500 tell them anyway you are BR to cover your own back.

    Flipping minefield!

You should not have too much trouble getting car insurance. It is house insurance where the problem seems to be.
