HELP A WORRIED MAN PLEASE! My wife will kill me

She went off to look after her sister who is recovering from an operation but she will be back on Wednesday and I'm for it!
She got new single beds and duvets to go on them, so i decided to surprise her and put the new covers on. I tore the celephone off them, threw it in the bin and started to put the covers on but they were the wrong size. I folded up the one that I had tried and took them back to M&S to change them but they refused to take them back without the celephone. They agreed that they hadn't been used but they needed the celephone. Well, the bin men had been so i didn't have it to give back to them. I phoned head office but they were snooty and told me i was stupid.
I know I'm stupid but my wife will kill me if I can't find an answer to this problem.
Are there any shops that package goods up?
Please help a worried man.

If the items are not faulty, then the shop doesn;t have to take them back. If they do agree to do so, then they can require you to have the packaging still. And you don't.

I think you'll have to buy new ones in the right size and absorb the cost.

Or just tell your wife she bought the wrong ones and you threw the packaging away.

Either way, it isn;t the end of the world.

Sell the other ones on eBay or give them to charity.

Packaging them up won't work as it won;t be the right packaging, so you'll have to forget about taking them back to M&S.

  • Dont feel too bad ...she bought the wrong size in the first place!! I am surprised she did not realise as they will have been more expensive!..(and M&S prices:eek: ) I agree ... go and buy the single sets and sell the doubles.
I bet you will not be so quick to throw the packaging away next time!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

What size did your wife buy? If she bought doubles could you use it on your own bed?

If there's no chance of returning them then tell your wife that all is not lost. Presuming that these are two double sized duvet covers for two single beds, taking the design into account you could make them narrower by stitching up both sides. If your wife doesn't have access to a sewing machine then you would be able to get this done locally quite inexpensively, cheaper than buying a new set anyway. Obviously, clear this with your wife before you do it though :D

So why will she kill you? you can just buy new ones the right size and stick them on and she'll never know!

  • You could buy new ones the right size and use that celophane to take the others back

It will say the size on the packaging?? Worth a try though - good thinking!

  • Wilkinsonsword - I think thats a sneaky, underhand thing to do and its a BRILLIANT idea! When they say "Oh, we will exchange them for you" just say, no thank you. I would rather have my money back! Love it!
