The Ministry of Justice does regulate 'claims management' businesses, but please don’t take that as an endorsement. The MOJ has closed down more than a hundred of these organisations, many of which have been found to make misleading claims to dupe unsuspecting consumers. My advice - avoid.

Contrary to what ARTFART says above, Experian does not sell credit data to these firms, or for that matter to any firm for marketing purposes. The shared credit data that is included on credit reports is very strictly controlled and cannot be used to target people for marketing offers. In fact, it can only be accessed with your permission.

Experian does have a marketing services arm, which helps organisations understand consumer characteristics and preferences using public data and data people agree to share (on lifestyle surveys for example). This information is anonymised and is used by a wide variety of organisations, including charities and fire services, to better understand their audiences.
