Everyone was going on about how great windows 7 is over vista. But to be honest, I dont see what the fuss is all about. Am I missing something here?

Its generally the same as Vista is, save for a few different setups

Thats 'cos Vista was pretty good, just no one could be bothered to learn how to use it and didn't like the UAC stopping them from installing crappy malware.
Best improvement for me is media center - superb and very smart looking now (Full HD and DVB-s support with no fudging - apart from ITV HD). Where have the animated video backgrounds gone though?

If you can cut/paste a few folders between different drives, and not have the OS leave some empty folders behind in the sending folder, it's an improvement on Vista.

    That's what happens to me when I cut/paste .....

Agree, I thought Vista was alright and didn't really have a problem with it. Windows 7 was just a natural progression for me and even seems to be more responsive on my laptop (3yr old Advent with 1gb ram!) :)

Its completely different to Vista. The taskbar works differently - right click on the icons and you'll see the jump lists. Better hardware support, a help that's actually useful, there's Libraries in Explorer, a fully configurable firewall and a whole raft of under the hood stuff.

For us simple non-ultratechie folk Vista was fine. I have just bought a new laptop with Windows 7. Yes it is different but for me not better. The under the hood stuff will stay there.
A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.

It's lucky that you didn't make any comment about Snow Leopard being no great improvement on its predecessor, otherwise you would have been flamed from here to kingdom come!

Surely by definition each new version of any operating system is almost immeasurably better than the one which preceded it*? Surely you don't doubt the word of the relevant Marketing Department? Just think about how much money was spent on it!

    * We can agree to ignore Windows ME here, if you wish... :(

I didn't have a problem with Vista either and couldn't see what all the complaints were about.

I have Vista on the desktop and laptop and Windows 7 on the netbook. I get on with them all.

One thing missing from Vista that I haven't thought to look for in Windows 7 is Windows Explorer. It was much easier to find files and folders in XP and I found it impossible with Vista.

Will have to have a looksee at Win 7 to see if it's any better.

I only have Windows 7 Starter with it being a netbook, but haven't noticed anything missing that I might need.
