there was a revenue protection sticker / stamp on it, yet no fee to pay sticker - I don't remember exactly as it was a while ago, and I wouldn't want to guess what it said as you might pick me up on my incorrect terminology again!
revenue protection stamps can be from first posting
eg wrong tracking barcodes, underpaid 1st class items being reduced ot 2nd class, mail received out of course etc
yellow labels refer ot items that have been removed from the stream and charged
It seems unlikely that a RM employee will have made up this rule...?! Maybe it's something they've introduced since you've stopped being a postie...
Because they dont have a clue and their DIMDOM most likely made up this line to save them checking whether an address had a paid redirection. In those 3 months,RM have not(i can assure you) brought in such a policy
no, as I said previously, letters such as UK Mail which are delivered by RM for a low fee shouldn't be forwarded on for 'free'.
the RM worker that I spoke to said that mail redelivery of RM postage is included in the price of postage, not free. I hope you see the difference.
so if its included, then how does that work with letters that are delivered at a loss? how does the regulator key that into pricing?
again there is no such policy or rule
Shoplifting is illegal, I'm sure there is no law against re-directing mail!
Anyway, I hope you realise my original comment was said tongue-in-cheek!
but you paid for shopping last week, surely the next 3 shops are free as long as you buy own brand?

The link above shows the following (taken from THIS link on Royal Mail's website):
Forwarding a letter- If a recipient of an item (except a Business Reply, Freepost, Special Delivery or Recorded letter) attempts to forward it from its original address to another address in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man by writing or printing the new address on the cover or envelope of the item and re-posting that item the following will apply provided that the item is being forwarded to the original addressee:
1.1 Except in the circumstances set out in 1.2 below, we will not charge extra postage or fees for forwarding an item that has been re-posted in accordance with 1 above.
1.2 We will charge extra postage and a may charge a handling fee for forwarding an item if it has been opened before being re-posted, or the name of the original addressee is covered or obscured, or it is forwarded by a business or a person acting on behalf of a business.1.3 We may at our discretion deliver to the addressee or return to the sender a letter which has been forwarded and which was originally sent using our Special Delivery or Recorded Signed For services. In either case we will charge the addressee or sender extra postage and/or a handling fee.1.4 In any case where we consider that an item has been forwarded to evade payment of postage we may treat it as an unpaid letter in accordance with the requirements of the Scheme or contract under which is was sent.1.5 We can be required under the Social Security Administration Act 1992 and the Social Security Administration (Northern Ireland) Act 1992 (‘the Acts’) not to deliver items of Social Security Post which have been forwarded or redirected to a new address, but to return them to the Sender. We are required under those Acts to provide information about the redirection of Social Security Post to persons specified in the Acts.1.6 The charges and fees for forwarding a letter will be at our standard rates at the time.I can see why custardy didn't reply as it has blown everything he has said out of the water.
At the end of the day, the original posted just wanted to know the details on it, and not to receive a load of negatives. He wasn't claiming it SHOULD be free, just asking if it was supposed to be free. There is a difference.0 -
The original post was over a year ago, so is probably sorted out now.0

Sorry to hijack this thread but I was wondering if anyone knew how long forwarded mail takes to arrive on average. 3 weeks ago we moved house at quite short notice. We applied for the RM redirection service, but were told that it wouldn't begin until 10 days after we moved. So we left some stickers for the new resident to put on our post, saying 'Please redirect to' and the new address. We saw the new resident the day after we moved and he said he had already forwarded on some mail. However none of it has arrived and we're getting a little concerned... can anyone advise?0

did you apply any stamps?
why didnt you simply ask the redirection centre to place a hold on the mail until the redirection came into force?0 -

I didn't know that asking them to put a hold on the mail was an option - they just said that they couldn't start the redirection until a week or so after we'd moved because they had to check our identity. And no I didn't apply any stamps because I had been under the impression that they would forward mail on - this happened a few years ago when there was again a gap between me leaving a property and the redirection coming into force, and the mail was redirected.0 -
I don't know exactly what the rules are about re stamping a redirected item, btu my post office told me that I needed to add the correct stamps again to the package otherwise it would sit in limbo or go back to the original sender. Now my post office also tells me a whole other load of things that are not true, but if i get post here for my sons at uni I add the correct address and out a new stamp on it automatically.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
