O2 claim iPhone is 'Liquid Damaged' - UPDATE AFTER VISIT WITH APPLE
Comments
-
If have a lot of experience at Apple Store Genius bars and would like to add that about 90% of the time they will check both water sensors using the same sort of device a doctor would use to check your ears. Obviously they are supposed to ALWAYS check as it invalidates your warranty if they are tripped........However.......Sometimes they just forget and other times it would'nt matter if it was tripped or not as some hardware related faults are still covered even if the indicators are tripped (like a ringer switch falling off for example)
If you don't belive me then there is an interesting Apple document floating about on the internet, took me a while but.....search google for "iPhoneTroubleshootingGuide20080731"0 -
We have three iPhones in the household so I took it upon myself to check for this 'liquid damage' amongst the other two fully working phones in the house.
Much to my own amusement, the indicator was RED on the dock liquid sensor on both phones, which I will add are nearing 2 years old but yet fully working.
Seems a bit funny to me!0 -
We received the iPhone back into store, and after checking both sensors, we discovered that they were both white.
The staff member contacted Anovo, who sent a picture through of the sensor near the dock RED, with my IMEI number imprinted on the bottom. However, this sensor was clearly white!
Has been sent back for attention of the manager!
Just shows you! Always contest!0 -
That's just an out and out lie to extract £140 from you. Those sensors don't flip on a whim. I'd be livid if that happened to me.0

Worth keeping an eye on how this gets on in the States. Seems people are finally standing up to the manufacturers claims on the reliability of these things.
These sensors are one of the biggest scams on the market IMHO.
About bloody time.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Hello all,
Just an update regarding the situation you all helped me with regarding my 'liquid damaged' iPhone.
Basically, my phone broke down, and I took it to o2 who sent it off to Anovo UK, their repair company who twice came back and said it was liquid damaged and asked for 140 pounds to fix the problem.
Without my iPhone for three weeks, I promptly made an appointment with a Genius in my local Apple store, and the handset was replaced immediately by Apple who clearly stated there was NO liquid damage, and both liquid sensors were in a good condition.
So, well Anovo seemingly lied. Why I don't know but I feel I have reasonable grounds for complaint with o2.
They strangely paid my travel costs to take it to Apple, surely it would have been easier for them to fix the problem?
Criminal ay?0 -
You know what makes it odd, Anovo don't actually get paid if they send it back as water damaged, they have no personal gain in not repairing it. Madness huh?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
