Really not. You may have missed the words 'Consumer Revenge' on the heading of this website. It's not just about saving money, it's about getting good, decent and professional service.0 -
She also has pointed out that her son will have to take more lessons when home, and the possible cost of re-booking his test.
So it is indeed moneysaving.9/70lbs to lose0 -
I'd also say there may be breach of contract as well !0

I wouldn't like to be taking a test in a car I'm unfamiliar with. Even though I've been driving for 15 years now it still takes me a day or so to get used to driving a new car (a hire car for example).0

Hi
My wifes a driving instructor and I must say her diary is known well in advance and 9 days notice on the face of it appears to be un professional. Your son does have the option of booking another test date using the on line system which will save him losing the cost of his current test. There was never going to be a guarantee that he would pass his test so unfortunately the option is going to be try and find another instructor that he can take the test with. Personally my wife always views anyone ringing for tests at short notice with suspicion as they have usually been told by their current instructors that they're not ready for test or they've been taught by friends and relatives and they are not ready for test. (IF she takes them on it's always with the proviso that they have a couple of lessons first to establish their proficiency). In your case it would probably be better to approach your sons instructor to see if he can arrange another instructor to cover for him. Alternatively it is sometimes possible to hire a dual controlled car to take the test but you need to make sure the correct insurance is in place and that he is accompanied by a substantive licence holder over 21 that has held a full licence for 3 years.
Good Luck
PS Probably not worth complaining to DSA as they won't be concerned re what they will see as a trivial matter. (And I'm not suggesting for 1 minute that it is trivial)

Wow, I'm quite staggered by the anger in this thread. I would think 9 days notice is quite reasonable and I would not think he had been unreasonable. The problems are created by your sons personal circumstances not by the activities of the DI.
What I don't understand is why you can just contact another DI and rent their car for the test? It costs you no more, the second DI earns a bit more cash and the only person to lose out is the first DI. Problem solved.
As for reporting the first DI, I think that's quite childish considering he's given you plenty of notice.0 -
It will be very hard to find a new instructor willing to risk taking on a new student for a test as such short notice. A new instructor won't know he can drive. I am sure 9 days is enough time to cancel the test too, so while this has caused a major problem the instructor has done nothing wrong. It might be bad service but in the eyes of the law he has given your son plenty of notice.0

Yes, it does say that but I don't take it literally.I just think that the OP/OP's son should communicate more with the current DI to try and resolve it amicably.
Looking to report someone before even doing this is taking "consumer revenge" to far IMO.Its easy for people to get hyped up on here, egged on by "report this" and "ombudsman that" when sometimes all it needs is a "How can you help me?".0 -
How come no one has done a 'repotting' joke?0

Didn't want to soil the thread with gardening jokes.0
