Postage costs, how much is too much? need advice please

            £5 for petrol? What's he driving? I'm pretty sure that ebay doesn't allow for all that anyway if he would care to check the fine print.
 Why is he making excuses for his costs etc when he was supposed to be sending it courier? That would have cost more and the whole breakdown of costs wouldn't have applied so have obviously been invented after your email.0

            Personally speaking I think he should refund the insurance cost at least as this was charged for but not purchased, Secondly £5 for petrol seems excessive and to say he had to go to the central office seems a bit extreme, I use my sub post office and they still have two parcel pick ups a day.
 The buyer may have inadvertanly said courier when he should have said royal mail, but again as a seller if I had done this I would have refunded some of the postage costs.
 I think I would leave a positive though and just mark down the DSR stars0

 why not look on the post office website and see how many/and how far their post offices are 
 standard insurance has been over £30 for many years0
