Postage costs, how much is too much? need advice please
midnightraven3
bought (and paid for) an electric guitar 13th may, mid afternoon
postage was stated at £20, seller dispatches within 2 days
courier, fair enough
it arrived this morning, by my normal parcel postman, he had 2 other things as well
it said on it price paid £9.23
i realize sellers have other costs, other than stamp price
but i wondered what others, particularly sellers thought of charging in excess of £10 more
i have pondered all day
i'm stuck
and i havent contacted the seller or left feedback yet
any advice would be welcomed
thank you

Even allowing for decent packaging - and I'm assuming that it was - £10.67 'over the top' (I did that in my head which means its prob wrong) is too much.
I know some people say that you should factor the cost of postage into your purchase price, etc etc but it's not the way I do things and I don't agree.
I would try sending the buyer a polite email saying that you were a rather surprised at how much the postage was in relation to the cost paid even allowing for packaging.
Sadly if he/she doesn't respond, doesn't care, there isn't anything you can do about it expect give them a neutral - or a positive if you really like the guitar - with a cutting message about the postage. Also marking down their star rating. (you could leave a neg but that would be a bit O.T.T.) but give them a chance first.
Do not under any circumstances threaten to leave neutral or neg feedback in your email.
Good luck. Let us know what they say (if anything)0 -
thank you
the guitar was packaged well in a box, with adequate packaging
i;m not complaining about this, but, it was all recycled, which i do like, but it does mean he didnt have costs, it was a box for something for the garden,
i shall mail as you have said
sadly they are not regular sellers, over 200 feedback, 100%, but they have had any activity as a seller, so no star rating is showing
i shall let you know what if anything happens
i hate confrontation0 -
Me too and I cringe when a 'message' appears after I have had to contact someone - sometimes I even get my Husband to open it for me or I do it with one eye shut, lol. I know, sad isn't it?

Oh and you can still mark down the stars, sooner or later it will catch up with them.0

nothing as yet
but its still early days0 -
He has made profit like companies do. I would not leave a neg or neutral. You knew how much p&p would be before you bid?0

That'll be me then.
If P&P had only been £10 would you have paid an extra tenner for the guitar?
I always find the less the postage, the more I'm willing to bid/pay.
If you were happy to pay the price then leave positive feedback but leave a comment about the P&P charge.0 -

believing it was for 48 hour courier as stated on his auction
not 6 days normal post
Where a seller sues a different postage method to that stated i owuld be cross. Email the selelr first, explain that you paid for 48 hour delivery and instead got a slower postag emethod, ask him for a refund to reflect the change of service.
If he doesn't comply then consider your feedback carefully, it is always worth leaving a comment at least that warns future buyers that the seller isn't all that they seem.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. thank you soolin
i shall wait and see if he replies
i appreciate not everyone is online all the time
i may come and ask for hlp with feedback though if that ok
he seems like a very few and far between user, certainly not a seller on a regular basis
i guess he wont be too worried about his feedback as his account is seldom used0
