For using an inferior postal method? Really?
Gosh I thought i was a bit soft on my buyers and sellers but I would not be happy to pay for a quick service and get a cheaper inferior one.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would be as disappointed as you OP.
We bought a guitar the other week & the seller stated £14 postage for standard parcels with insurance. It arrived 2 days later, postage paid was £11 something - the odd £3 wasnt a problem. However if they had quoted £20 & a courier delivery I wouldnt be impressed.
One thing I cant understand is that your seller, like mine, sent without tracking through the Royal Mail. The guitar we bought was over £100, surely alot of money to loose had it gone astray!0

i have received a reply from my seller
would someone with more experience/knowledge than myself give me an opinion please?
I am dissapointed to hear of your dissapointment with your recent purchase and would like to try to explain the apparent disparity.
I had calculated the postage on a number of levels.
Actual cost to the Royal Mail(approx £10). Cost of packaging materials (approx £2.50) and the cost of the 25 mile round trip to despatch from the nearest central post office (approx. £5.00)(to ensure that delays were minimised). I also put a further calculation of £2.50 for additional insurance because at the time of listing I assumet that the item would sell beyond the standard £30.00 insurance provided by Royal Mail - however it didn't, so I didn't over insure. If you still feel dissapointed now I have explained then I would be happy to offer you a full refund (including your carriage charges) upon return of the item.
 Kind Regards

should have added that it came in a firepit box (the things you have in the garden)
with an additional box inside, that had been posted to the seller, still complete with his name & address
and the guitar did sell for more than £30
not much but it was over0

Royal Mail cover for up to £41 so that may be what they mean.
I think that a positive with appropriate stars is the best way forward, unless you did want to return it.0

i dont want to return it
more bother than its worth really
i only want it for decorative purposes (american diner style)
 thank you for the advice:)0

So he admits charging you £2.50 for packaging materials that he didn't actually buy and another £2.50 for insurance that he didn't actually buy. I'd definitely be marking the stars down for that.:www: :: MFi3 ::

£5 for petrol....and not sent by courier.. I'd mark down the postage but I'm mean like that.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0

I think most people agree that the price you pay is the total price; auction and p&p. So generally it is not fair to have too much of a moan on p&p when you see how much it costs. However, the fact this seller stated a postal service and didn't use it, is certainly cause for DSR markdown, particularly after his response when you have given him the opportunity to explain.
Ultimately, the DSR and feedback is yours, depending on how you felt the 'whole' buying process went.0
