My husband had a Citroen xantia estate when they first came out, only trouble he had in four years was the suspension went down but he managed to drive it with the suspension raised, to get to the garage. Considering the mileage he did I don't think that was bad.
They are nice cars to drive, lovely and comfortable and loads of room they have also in the past been voted tow car of the year. As long as you aren't paying over the odds, you don't mention the price.

How much do you think a C5 VTR HDi 110bhp Estate 2003 model should valued at? Also can anyone help with this - I have been reseaching the internet and alot of people are talking about a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and that this needs replacing at around 75000 miles and costs around £500. Does this model have a DPF? I have googled and cant find the answer.

I have the exact same model of the C5, also 2003 but with a 160000 miles on the clock.

They are great cars IMHO....mine has done 80000 in the last 4 years with minimal costs, only a few big garage bills but tbh most of them were "wear and tear" things like brakes discs, starter motor etc.

The things to watch/check at that mileage are the clutch, suspension (mind that's any age on a citroen;)) and the cambelt which although it's not due for changing for 20000 miles I would probably change sooner.

As for towing a caravan, I doubt the car would even noticed - I treat mine like a 4X4 and drive over fields towing a harrow or topper :o

ETA I'd say £2500 - £3000 would be about right too.

I don't know about the filter but they are only a problem if the car doesn't do regular, over 50mph journeys to burn any carp off the filter AFAIK. TBH any large engined diesel will have the same problem though.

All I can say is check the service history carefully and if there isn't a stamp in the book or a bill at the recommended intervals ask the dealer to do it now.

    I run an 02 plate petrol C5
bought it because of the cheap price,i wasnt looking for a C5 at all

    interior is typical french
its rear visibility is terrible and its a pain to reverse park

however great ride, huge cars especially in estate flavour
    good prices and spec
ive had little trouble from mine
only non consumable is one coil pack that went
check the back doors open from the inside as its a common fault on the C5's

Thanks the garage has it on at £3,295 but we are getting the timing belt changed as part of the deal. I must also say that no money is changing hands, we are doing a straight swap. At first I was a bit weary as to wny any garage would do this but they are getting a slightly newer car with low mileage from us so will probably sell for a profit, the internet values our car at about £3,500. Do you think this is a good deal?

That sounds like a fairly good deal, considering that it is through a dealer so you have some comeback if it all goes wrong.....

I don't think mine has a DPF yoke but I'll check and let you know......looking at my service book, there is no mention of it! HTH

well i see on on eBay for £3900 with 89K on the clock
so i guess with the price they paid for the C5 (remember theres profit in the C5's price)
that they see a chance of a nice profit on the newer car
