Problems with Mobile Broadband

Hiya,

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

I took a deal out with carphone warehouse/orange mobile broadband where you get the laptop with it.

The contract is up in September this year.

However the laptop has died on me :( and typically is out of manufacturer's warranty!!! However as I cannot use the mobile broadband does this mean that it is now null and void and can complain to orange mobile broadband as I cannot receive the product?

Please help!

Helen

IMO you need to ask on consumer rights http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=173 rather than here.

The broadband still works but your equipment doesn't so I'd say you have no valid argument on that point - if it were not so you could let the battery go flat and say you live in a tent so the deal is void.

You may have an argument that a laptop should last for longer than just over a year (which I assume it has) and get it fixed on that basis even though it's out of warranty but as I said the consumer rights would be a better place to ask.

I'm afraid that if the laptop is out of warranty you have no get-out at all. That's why these so called 'freee laptop' offers are to be avoided at all costs.
It's the same situation as if you took out an 18m mobile phone contract and the phone broke-you would still be liable for the airtime contract.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

As said best asking on the consumer rights but I think there was an EU ruling that said electrical items like computers and tv's etc should last longer than the 1 year warranty and as such should be repaired by the manufactor.
I remember thinking at time I read it that it was one of the only things EU has given us,a google search should be able to confirm this
