This is actually really cool... I'm so sick of having to fork out hundreds of bucks to go see a festival only to find myself broke for a week after!!

  • Event: Todstock Music Festival 2011

Location: Centre Vale Park, Todmorden, Lancashire OL14 7BS (Between Manchester & Leeds)

    Dates: Saturday August 6th 12-9pm & Sunday August 7th 12-6pm

Cost: FREE (Donations collected for local charities)

    For more details visit Todstock.co.uk

Todstock blazed onto the festival scene last year with a stunning free 2 day event that hosted a variety of musical styles in a friendly community event that showcased the best in local talent. Nestled in the leafy vale of Todmorden in the Calder Valley, Todstock is something all too rare these days; a free event with good music, good people and a good vibe all round. Mixing with the music are holistic therapies and kids activity tents, good wholesome food, rides and stalls, all set in the beautiful Centre Vale Park.

Although no artists have been revealed as yet for this year's event, last year the festival opened with Tom Hingley the lead singer from Inspiral Carpets and Saturday night DJ headliners were Sankeys residents H2, secured just after Sankeys was voted No1 club in the world by DJ magazine.

The festival is split equally between dance and live music, with all styles catered for. This year the live stages already confirmed include Jack's House Main band stage, Herbidaceous Punk/Ska Tent, World Music Big Top and the Hole Note Acoustic Tent. In addition dance stages confirmed are the Tim Owen presents Terrazza House Tent, Anonymous Sounds Tent, Duck Pond Chill Out Tent, Axis Sound System Reggae Tent, Psybase Trance Tent and more to be announced.

Todstock is a community event that is free to the public and raises money for local charities through donations and as a result all artists, organisers and volunteers work for free. The park is a beautiful environment and there is a very relaxed atmosphere that is welcoming for all members of the community, last year 5000 people attended and more are expected this time round. If you are after a musically diverse free event with a chilled out environment, you couldn't ask for better than this one.

Keep an eye out for the Strawberry Fayre in Cambridge - always under threat due to draconian policing policies, but a great day out if it happens

The clocks have gone forward, the sun is shining and the countdown to GDIF 2011 has begun! This year’s Festival will take place Friday 24 June – Saturday 2 July and we’re now making the final touches to the programme including the launch of an intensive new 3 day “festival within a festival” – the Greenwich Fair. Those who enjoyed Graeae’s production of The Garden last year will be pleased that their latest show based on Ted Hughes’ The Iron Man will open proceedings. There will also be a return visit of Compagnie Off’s spectacular Les Girafes as well as the London premiere of Wired Aerial Theatre’s epic production As the World Tipped, directed by Nigel Jamieson who created the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Full programme details will be online mid May. In the meantime our homepage slideshow gives a preview taste of what’s to come.

    Middlesbrough Mela

    http://www.boromela.co.uk/

We went to this for the first time last year admittedly because Signature from Britains Got Talent (or some other talent thing) were on and have to say it was a fab day - the girls (3yrs) loved it and there was lots to do and see - food was fantastic but the stalls were really busy and queues huge at lunch and teatime so we ate at random times:D

Sadly Middlesbrough Borough Council have this year decided to re-brand 'Middlesbrough Music Live' as the 'Intro Festival' and has turned a free event into a paid one - tickets are £15 which is still not too bad but guess re-branding doesn't come cheap! At least they didn't can it I suppose.

We normally go to middlesbrough mela every year, its great and the day before on the saturday they have a sports mela on too, all again for free.

Its a shame about music live though, used to be really good a couple of year ago.
