I have one of those IKEA fleece blankets on the back of the sofa and lived under it in the evenings this past winter. Absolute bargain at £2.50!!!0 -

Praps we lived next door! Yep i remember the gloves in bed, or socks on my hands, if we didnt have enough blankets, we had coats thrown over us as well!:p Mum used to tuck me in sooo tight i couldnt move, those old grey blankets were heavy!Only thing i hated was getting out of the bath.....it was Freeeezing!:rotfl:Oh and lots of stew in the winter, which is handy just chuck whatever yourve got in the cupboards (well food wise obviously!) I seem to remember it snowing more when i was a child too, and we lived in South East, not up North.Caz

I found this tutorial on flickr and thought this might be of use....

It shows you how to make a draft excluder - very nice. My friend made one last year and it looks great. I must make the effort to make one myself....

Thanks chick , that means alot.
I know it is terriible that its may and im already starting to think about getting boyfriend to make me some more candles or stockpilling cheap discounted one when and where i can so it means not having to use lights in the winter.
I have a fleece blanket safely put away in the airing cupboard (got for £2 in a sale and hoping to grab a few more between now and august time),
sons bob the builder one is on the back of the chair still ( me and him just got over a nasty bout of tonsilitus so were cuddled under it)
hot water bottles are stored under the sink and ready to use - one each for us.
dog has a few jumpers put away ready for winter (anyone on the pets board will know why)
looking to get a new fridge freezer , ours is on its last legs, way too small for all my home cooking and none ever seem to appear on our freecycle so might have to bite the bullet and buy one!
buying spare material i find in charity shops so i will be able to make either patchwork blankets for the bed or some sausage dogs (got two already which are giant caterpillars - literally!) which go in teh living room but really need on for sons room, and our bedroom.
need to get our radiator sorted becasue it doesnt work full stop - its been bled and still wont heat up plus its hidden behind a radiator becasue of the stupid chair in my bedroom (its a 3 seater sofa!)
god it shorrible - i should be enjoyign the sun not worryign about this! (well rain today so guess i have a few days of plannign ahead i could do)Time to find me again0 -
In the winter, well when it gets cold I put a fleece blanket on the settee for those who are cold.
Also, OH is a roofer, and we have an open fire so we burn waste wood from the roofs.0 -
Today it's turned cloudy and there's a chilly breeze. My flat is cold, as it faces north and has massive windows. The double glazing helps but the house is old and the cold seeps in.
Before my mse days I would have blithely switched the heater on, but not so now. I have put on a fleecy jacket and have a fleecy blanket around my waist and legs as I sit at the computer. Warm as toast, and costs me nothing.
The fleecy jacket I've had for 4 years now, bought at Primark for £4, and the blanket I've had since last winter, bought in IKEA for £2.50. They rock!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Funny, I was thinking I should reread this as it certainly looks as if we'll all be needing to use less gas and electricity if prices continue to leap upwards. Thanks for bumping it up!Resolution:

Just thought of something, we`ll have to cut down on the amount we use our electric fan during the summer months as well, which is really cr*p, as we cant have our windows open during night, we live in a ground floor flat! B*gger:mad:Caz
