There could be moisture coming through the wall from the outside. It may be worth coating the wall with thompsons water seal http://www.thompsonswaterseal.com/
this will prevent further moisture coming through the wall.
You could also get a heat source near to the damp wall in his bedroom and leave it on for a day to try to dry away the moisture. Do this with a window open and the door shut to let any moisture evaporate out of the room.
    Good luck !

Just seen a interesting report on Sky news regarding the cost of electrical appliances and thought would post the findings. All the prices are for the weekly cost and the family featured would use some appliances a lot (hair straighteners)
Hair straighteners used 3 times a day 30p
Vacuum 3 times per week 34p.
tv on for 35 hours £2.89
washing machine and tumble dryer used 3 times a day £11.65
    lighting £2.65
    boiling a kettle 70p

I may be out by the odd penny- memory's not what it used to be going from the lounge to the pc!

'I hate to think what hair strighteners three times a day does to your hair!!
I think I'm being good if I vacuum once a week!
TV could stay off nearly all week if it was up to me but sadly DH is addicted , if he's out it's almost always off though," off you go DH !!! " :D
Washing machine and dryer...EEK ! They are often on three times a day, have got two airers but with five adults they don't hold enough :(
Lighting ...that would depend on type and number of bulbs ..any idea?
How full was the kettle? We do boil ours quite often, I have started stashing 'spare' boiling water in a flask for later cups of coffee though!

I have a feeling the family featured were not exactly usage aware.. There were 3 teenage daughters- hence 3 times a day for the straighters, sadly not a problem I could ever have with my stubble !
  • Ahhhh I thought it was three times a day on the same hair.......it would soon be stubble at that rate I think!

I've started baking potatoes along with the chicken or whatever is roasted on a Sunday. I know this is a little thing and I'm sure others have been doing it for ages but I am LOVING those crunchy skins. Yum. This weekend I also put some celery stems and half onions into a little stock, covered the dish and put that in the oven for the last hour. They were delicious (for me - nobody else likes them) and the juice was poured into the gravy. I am determined to use as few gas rings as possible ;)

We regularly try to use the base of our oven for cooking other things at the same time as cooking a Sunday roast. Top shelf for roast otatoes/parsnips. Middle shelf for the meat.
The base will accommodate a tray of chopped roasting Mediterranean veggies for the following evening, or roast a tray of free bones from the butcher for making stock/home made soup.

    OK, I found this
    http://www.changeworks.org.uk/uploads/wat/Heating_Comparison.pdf

which suggests that having the GCH on when the living room is cold would cost us 23-44p, whereas having a 1 bar electric fire or oil filled raiator would cost 11p and a 2 bar electric fire woudl cost 22p.

Now that suggests to me that in the evenings when we are all in the living room or during the day when I am wokrign in the study it would be cheaper to haul the old oilfilled radiator in there than to have the gas heating on.

    Am I right?
