How much bubblewrap am I likely to need to cover 3 windows and the 2 windows for the front and back door? Ebay have got quite a bit on there for a v. reasonable price; does 10 metres sound enough?
    That's Numberwang!

measure the windows and add a bit on for overlap. add all together and you'll know how much you need to buy.

  • we got some of that window seal stuff from Wilko's and so far i have only done 1 window and it appears to be coming away from the window frame - is it possible that i may have shrunk it too much??

on another note, i have my 3 year old DD teaching her daddy about energy saving!!!

yesterday DD and DH were playing in the room, while i was busy doing some housework, when DH shouted up to me that he was getting a lesson in energy saving from our 3 yr old!!
they had the tv on in the background while they were playing and apparently DD got up, marched over to the tv and switched it off, told DH that cos they weren't watching it, it needed turning off to save 'ectrikity' lmao!! soo funny!!
we also have a kettle that has a blue glowing light when its left on standby and she tells him off for having the light on the kettle!! - 'daddy why is the light on the kettle?' - 'because daddy just used it to make a cup of tea' - 'but now your not making a cup of tea so the light needs turning off!!'

i really didn't think i was that bad, but i must be obsessed with turning everything off, if she is picking up tips and telling her daddy off!! lol!!

dollydaydream - with kids like this, there's hope of saving the planet yet. If only all the adults would be as vigilant!
  • Dollydaydream - brilliant! Especially as she's not doing it for her own devices - DS2 (aged 7) in Lidl recently approached me with a pack of waffles and a pleading look. I said no, we can make them at home in the waffle maker I bought specially at his request. Smarta*se replied "But buying these will save electricity!".

To the person struggling to convert fahrenheit (sp?) to celsius, take off 30 then halve it for a rough conversion.

Have given in on the heating front as the damp was getting unbearable and I began to cough a lot - have asthma, so thought it best not to take any risks, and listened to all the wise OSers saying we must take care of health. That said, we have a problem with the electrics - waiting for a call from the sparky just now - as whenever we use the shower, the wires at the main box start to burn , as we discovered ne night when DS2 had a shower and OH came home to ask what that burning smell was in the vestibule... Burning smell soon followed by smoke... So that restricts the appliances we cna have on at any one time, and since our panel heaters are electric (and give out less heat than a dog's fart), we're limited to the gas fire and hot water bottles (filled from the flask by the kettle for spare boiled water, of course!). Have just ordered an oil-filled radiator from Screwfix but won't dare put it on until the sparky's been! I've also just ordered thermals as I'm so cold all the time I feel really miserable. Now I'm broke but hopefully will be warmer.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Just done my weekly meter readings after putting the CH on:

    Last week you spent:
    • £5.81 on gas
    • £7.32 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (8 weeks ago):
    • £11.63 on gas
    • £53.52 on electricity
SCARY!!! But hey at least I know I have accumulated a fair amount of gas credit by holding out almost till the end of October. Amazingly, I am still rated as C re. carbon emissions - wonder how long this will last!

What website is this that you're using to get prices and such? I'm curious to see what ours looks like. :o
