bubble wrap seems to have alot of uses, I put some under my puppys bedding but she found it and shredded it .

I wrap bubble wrap around my plant pots to keep them warm.

Before it gets dark, cook dinner in the oven and whilst the ovens warming the house have a shower.......I always shower before the temprature drops.

    Hi All

just to let you know that Wilkinsons have the plastic sheet stuff that you have al been on about - you put it on windows and use the hairdryer on it. I saw it in there yesterday and they also have lots of cheap laggign and window seals etc - there was a whole little section on how to make you house warmer in our wilkinsons store
i will be heading there this weekend then!
just wanted to check how easy this stuff is to remove from the windows afterwards? i'm in a rented house and so i can't do anything that can't be removed easily whenever i leave.

My husband puts it up each year for his mum and when he comes to remove it, he finds that the double sided sticky tape doesn't always come off easily and sometimes takes the paint off the wooden frame.

  • Have not read through every page, but has using saucepan lids been mentioned? It reduces the amount of heat needed to bring to boil/keep simmering.

Albas oil in a bowl of water on top of the radiators, or by the fire has a strange, perhaps psychological warming effect.

My friends who are hardcore, but amateur, climbers take deep heat out with them to warm themselves up, though I'd far from advise it, just a funny story.

has anyone got any ideas on how to insulate a thin roller blind?..to make it more 'thermal'??...

Wondering if it's possible to stick some felt onto one side, or maybe spray something to make it thicker, but not sure if the roller mechanism would complain too much!

    thanks
  • Haven't read through all but has anyone mentioned cooking double the amount of spag bol and chilli and then dividing up to freeze the extra? I double my ingredients for each and then divide into three meals of each as I always have some left over and then it's easy meals and only to reheat instead of re-cooking!

    Love this thread!!

I have cleared a drawer out today, and hunted out all the hot water bottles and wheat bags (microwave beanbag things), and fleecy socks and blankets and put them all in there!!

So as so as we feel a chill they are where i can find them!!

Save on a small amount of electric by taking a flask to work, boiling their kettle, filling your flask and bringing it home again for all your hot drinks that evening?

Can anyone tell me if lamps are cheaper to have on than overhead lights? On does the wattage of the bulb considerably affect the costage or just the amount of light?
