Does anyone know if people still get disconnected for being unable to pay fuel bills? - or is it the case that they get forced into having these expensive to use prepayment meters installed (whether they like it or no)? I'm not au fait with these things.
dont think they can if you meet certain critera, when i rung bg to get on a dd i brought up the subject of prepayment meters, if you get into debt they can make you have a prepayment meter and your debt comes off of that (when you credit it so much comes off your debt the rest is your credit) unless your in debt they will charge to fit a prepayment meter, i wanted one to keep a better check on what im using etc but not willing to pay to have one fitted, im not in debt so they wont do oneDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

Ceridwen, disconnection is a last resort for unpaid power bills. The power company would prefer to come to an arrangement, but if the client defaulted on that, then they would probably offer a prepayment meter, setting the tariff at a higher rate to clear the arrears.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

ka7e - I use an electric fan sitting on my open window to suck cool air from outside inside - works well and reduces a sweltering room to a cool one much quicker. Can't stand cool air being propelled onto my body! Though I agree that where you're propelling stale air around it makes no difference at all
sammy_kaye18 - I'm very happy with my neighbours downstairs heating my flat - last year I had my heating on for only three days, much to the disgust of my other half who is always cold, even in the summer. I generally only ever sleep with a sheet over me as I'm so hot all the time.
Happily fixed my bills last month and already noticed the new tarrifs offered have risen since I fixed mine (had the confirmation through last week!). Fingers crossed the government sorts out this mess, but as I said earlier, if the guy beneath me turns down his heating it could be a cold winter!Tim0 -
Radiator airers are a good investment, they hang in front of the radiators and have space for two or three things on them each. Good if you don't have space to have an airer up permanently over the winter. Hope that helps.

Hi Debbie
Forgot to put that in the post that i have two of these in my living room already - mainly as the hallway radiator would get attacked by the dog , my bathroom is barely big enough to swing a squirrel in and hass stuff hanging round the shower rail, my bedroom - the radiator has never worked since we moved here 3 years ago despite it being 'mended' several times and my sosn room which i need to clear the toys away from and then i will grab two more to put on his radiator
Ment to add that I had my gas bill yesterday and it was £82.50 but i didnt pay last months installement so it is now £132.50 but that was my own undoing because a birthday present cost more than i expected  .
But still £82.50 for 3 months doesnt seem to bad to me. Hopign to try and keep it around these prices for a while and am determined that winter will be kept nice and low. Have already been planning like mad and boyfriend has agreed to get new blinds fitted int he living room which he says he'll pay for - we have a giant window - easily 2meters across (plus a bit) but 2 meters drop so is goign to cost a bit.
Found a spare single duvet which im keeping to put under my little boys bottom sheet to keep him snugly this winter although amy need it sooner than later as its chucking it down here all morning and set to continue for the next MONTH according to weather reports this morning, not looking forward to the school run today as its showing no sign of stopping or easing in the slightet and its pretty heavy:(Time to find me again0 -
sammy_kaye18 - you can get blinds from factory shop (mine were 2.5 mtr long by 2mtr down) for about £20-25 dead easy to fit too, as long as you don't have a really bad plastering job done on the HSS (steel) lintle - mine kept falling down at the clips :- (Tim0

Is this any use to anyone? I've made these roman blinds and they are really good for glass panelled doors where a curtain might not be appropriate (and they really keep the drafts out!)

You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

Yeah unfortunately we have lovely steel beams abover EVERY window which means we cant hang curtains. I do have blinds in teh living room but they are perched on hooks etc and means i cant move them without the whole lot crashing on my head.
Bens room they had managed to get a curtain pole up which the last enent left so i nabbed it so now he has a net and curatinas up
In our bedroom we cant put anythgin because of the steel beam, we did have nets up but being in a ground floor flat our privacy was an issue so we had to get an extendable shower rail form argos and wedge it into the window with a set of cheap curtains on - looks very tatty and horrid but it does the job for the minute.Time to find me again0 -
Just got one of those thingies (I'm sure they have a name rather more technical than this in reality
) It tells you how much power you are using at any given minute. It's TERRIFYING!!!   It was bad enough on the default factory setting but now I've set it to what we are actually paying per unit I'm a wreck. When I see what we're getting through on a 'Summer' day I dread to think what the Winter will bring...
